About Jerusalem

This city sits on a watershed in the Judean Hills, between the Mediterranean coast and the Dead Sea. Israel made West Jerusalem its seat of government after the 1948 war and took East Jerusalem from Jordan in 1967; it later annexed the eastern part, a move not widely recognized internationally.

THE INTERNATIONAL REVIEW

The AEROREADY dress is adidas’s plain-spoken women’s tennis dress, built around one claim rather than a stack of them: the fabric moves perspiration off the skin and dries it before it can sit against the body and turn cold.

AEROREADY is the moisture-management specification adidas runs across its court range, and it works by capillary action.

Perspiration is drawn to the outer face of the knit, where the surface area is greater and it evaporates, instead of pooling in the layer held against the skin.

It is the technology the brand puts into its everyday kit rather than its tournament kit, and it is specified for exactly this job.

A dress is a single garment rather than a top and a skirt, so there is nothing to match and nothing to keep tucked through a long match.

Ball pockets are included, which is the detail that separates a tennis dress from a summer dress cut to resemble one – a player holding a second ball in the serving hand has given something away before the point begins.

Jerusalem sits at around 750 metres in the Judaean hills, where summer days run hot and notably dry and the evenings cool quickly, so a fast-drying knit is comfortable rather than clammy once the sun drops.

The dress runs in two colourways: Black and White, and Crew Blue with Acid Yellow.

LET adidas Aeroready Women’s Tennis Dress SHOW YOU Jerusalem

Dress: Calling this place the Tower of David was the branding bet of the century, because the citadel is not actually David’s tower. Still, with Jaffa Gate below and that minaret sitting on old stone like a chip on the felt, I’d say history covered the spread.

Dress: The Cardo was Jerusalem’s Roman main street, and betting on good foot traffic here was the safest play in town. Columns, shops, crowds—the ancients knew the house always wins when the house is retail.

Dress: The Western Wall is built of Herodian stones from the Temple Mount retaining wall, which is what I call playing the long game. Folks tuck prayers into the joints; that is the most earnest stack of paper bets you’ll ever see.

Dress: The Shrine of the Book houses the Dead Sea Scrolls, and that white dome is shaped like the lids of the jars that helped preserve them. Whoever hid those scrolls was holding a long-shot ticket that paid off two thousand years later.
