This capital stands on the Vistula River, roughly in the middle of the country it governs. It became the royal seat at the end of the 16th century, when Sigismund III Vasa shifted his court from Kraków. Much of the city was destroyed during the Second World War, especially after the 1944 uprising, and the postwar center was rebuilt over the ruins.

The Climacool Y is a slim-fit women’s tennis dress named for the elastic Y across the back.
The Y is the whole argument for the design: it lifts the straps off the top of the shoulder so the arm can travel through a serve without the dress travelling with it.
The cut is close rather than loose. The armholes are shaped so the shoulder clears them, and the back strap is built for support rather than decoration.
A soft shell bra construction with removable pads is built in, and a separate pair of inner shorts is supplied with a ball pocket on each side, so the dress is played in as a complete kit rather than layered over something bought separately.
The fabric is 88% recycled polyester to 12% elastane – enough elastane to stretch under load and return to its own shape after a wash. Climacool is the technology on the label: fast-drying fibres that move perspiration off the skin instead of storing it against the body.
Warsaw’s outdoor season is compressed into a hot continental summer, with the rest of the year cold enough to push play indoors, so a dress bought there is worn hard across a few months rather than lightly across twelve.

Dress: Shiver me laces, this castle was raised again after the war from old photographs, paintings, and rescued fragments, which is more rebuilding than any leaky skiff deserves. I still don’t trust a palace this far from salt water, but it’s got ballast.
Dress: There she stands, the bronze Warsaw Mermaid, sword up and shield ready in the middle of the Old Town Market Square. A fine lookout, though any proper mermaid should be nearer the tide and less surrounded by café chairs.
Dress: That towering Palace of Culture and Science was a Stalin-era gift, completed in 1955, with a viewing terrace up on the 30th floor. Thirty floors aloft and still no mast, no sail, no decent gull—landfolk build strange ships.
Dress: The Palace on the Isle sits in Łazienki Park like a fancy captain’s cabin stranded on a pond, built as a royal summer residence. Nearby, they hold Chopin recitals by the willow-shaped monument, which is a fair wind for the ears if not for the sails.
