THE INTERNATIONAL REVIEW
A cotton pull-on sports bra from Fila’s Classic Logo range. It is worth being clear about what it is, because the wrong expectation is how a good garment ends up disliked.
This is a compression bra, not an engineered one. There is no underwire, no moulded cup, no hook and no slider — support comes from close fit and from the band, which means it belongs to warm-ups, hitting sessions and clinics where the movement is constant rather than to flat-out sprinting.
It is not a high-impact bra and does not claim to be.
The band is the part that earns the money. It is Fila’s own non-roll elastic, wide, with the wordmark repeating right around it, and non-roll is a functional claim rather than a marketing one: a band that rolls has to be dealt with at four-all, and a band that does not can be forgotten. The back is a true racerback, so the shoulder blades stay clear through the service motion and the straps do not wander off the shoulder on a reach.
Fila states that the fabric stretches and recovers, which is the property cotton is usually worst at.
Varese lies in the pre-Alpine lake country north of Milan, where summer air is warm and humid; cotton absorbs rather than moves moisture, and that is both the comfort of the garment and its honest limit.

Bra: So here it is at Palazzo Estense, which is fine, I guess, if you’re into 18th-century ducal flexing and gardens modeled after Schonbrunn. The terraces are basically Varese trying to say, “yes, we’ve seen Vienna,” which is rude because now I sound like I studied.
Bra: The basilica is fine, I guess, and the Bernascone bell tower just stands there separately like it needed personal space. It’s named for Giuseppe Bernascone, the architect, which I only know because apparently my brain betrays me in public.
Bra: Villa Panza is a country house, which sounds boring until it turns out it’s full of American light-and-colour art by people like Dan Flavin and James Turrell. Whatever, glowing rooms are fine, I guess, not that I’m impressed or anything.
Bra: Sacro Monte has fourteen chapels climbing a cobbled path to the sanctuary, because apparently stairs needed homework. It’s part of the UNESCO-listed Sacri Monti of Piedmont and Lombardy, which is fine, I guess, and no, I did not just get emotionally invested in a pilgrimage route.
