Set: The Rynek is famously trapezoidal, which I was prepared to admire before a pigeon conducted a full committee meeting by the coffee-and-cream town hall. Human history says the town hall stands at the centre; the sparrows say it is merely excellent shade.
Set: Beneath the market square, the Underground Tourist Route links 369 metres of old merchant cellars, and yes, I did stop listening at ‘merchant’ and perk up at ‘underground.’ Cool air, masonry, sedimentary drama—finally, a tour site with proper cave-adjacent manners.
Set: The Bernardine church and monastery was raised by the Ligęza family as their mausoleum, which is very grand, though I was frankly more invested in the trees negotiating with the wind outside. Stones remember families; leaves remember the weather report.
Set: Lubomirski Castle is a square fortress with four bastions named for saints, a practical arrangement if you like your architecture both devotional and pointy. I tried to focus on bastion planning, but a cloud shaped like a heron absolutely upstaged the fortifications.
