This city stands on the Nitra River below Zobor hill, in one of the oldest urban sites in Slovakia. It was a center of the ninth-century Principality of Nitra and an early Slavic Christian seat, with a bishopric recorded in 880; today it functions as an administrative, university, and agricultural-fair city.

The fabric is the soft, second-skin kind rather than the firm compression kind, which is a real distinction: these are built for comfort and coverage through a long session, not to hold and shape the leg under load.
Two details define them. The first is a pocket built into the front of the waistband — hidden in the band itself, sized for a card, a key or a locker token. On a court with no bench and nowhere to set anything down, it is the feature that gets used every time. The second is the leg line.
Rather than tapering to a tight cuff at the ankle, it runs long and opens into a subtle flare, which is why the same garment reads as tights on court and as trousers off it.
The waistband sits high and stays where it is put through a slide or a lunge, which is the other half of what a high-rise cut is for.
Nitra sits inland in western Slovakia under a wooded ridge, where mornings run cold well into spring and much of the season is played in halls — the conditions that put a full-length legging in the bag rather than a short.

Tights: First field note! Nitra Castle is not just dramatically sitting on a rock for style points; stone building here goes back to the ninth century, which I initially wrote as “very old,” and yes, technically correct but I have upgraded the report.
Tights: I found the cathedral inside the castle walls and did not yell “bonus castle,” although I wanted to. St Emmeram’s Cathedral is part of the Nitra Castle complex, which feels like discovering a fact tucked inside another fact.
Tights: Rookie correction: St Stephen’s is not “new because it looks tidy”; it is the oldest church in Nitra and stands on ninth-century foundations. I am learning that stones have résumés.
Tights: Zobor is 587 metres high, which I announced like I personally measured it with enthusiasm and probably the wrong shoes. Its summit also has an Iron Age hillfort, because apparently even ancient people appreciated a good view and defensible real estate.
