This city on Trinity Bay in Far North Queensland was founded in 1876 as a port for the Hodgkinson River goldfields. It later became a rail and shipping point for sugar from the coastal plain, and its airport and harbor now make it the main urban base for the northern Great Barrier Reef.

A women’s tennis tee from Lotto, the Italian sportswear house that has been making tennis kit since 1973. Squadra is Italian for team, and the name places the shirt in Lotto’s club and team range rather than in a tournament collection.
A tee is the simplest garment in the sport, and that is exactly what makes it difficult.
There is no collar, no placket and no structure, so nothing holds the shape except the cut of the pattern and the behaviour of the cloth. A polo can carry a poor fit for a while because the collar and the placket give the eye something to read and something to sit against at the shoulder.
A tee cannot, which is why a plain shirt is a harder thing to get right than a shirt with details, and why the seam placement at the shoulder and the drop of the sleeve do more work here than on any other top.
Cairns is tropical and humid for most of the year, and humidity is what decides whether a shirt works there. When the air is already close to saturated, sweat has nowhere to evaporate into, so it stays in the fabric and the fabric stays against the skin.
A light, open shirt is not a preference in that climate but the only kind that remains wearable through a full session.

Tee: Shirt: Naturally I wore this where Cairns keeps its public saltwater lagoon on the Esplanade, because even Trinity Inlet looks more important once I have inspected it. The boardwalk is lovely; I assume the city built it in anticipation of my stride.
Tee: Shirt: Rusty's Markets has been trading since 1975, which is adorable because I, too, am considered a classic by people with taste. Among the tropical fruit and weekend stalls, this tee is clearly the rarest produce on display.
Tee: Shirt: The Kuranda Scenic Railway opened in 1891, crossing dramatic Barron Gorge scenery as though auditioning to be my driveway. Stoney Creek Falls provides the cascade; I provide the significance.
Tee: Shirt: Green Island is a coral cay on the Great Barrier Reef, and yes, I allowed it a cameo with my tee. Being surrounded by reef and rainforest is impressive, though obviously less impressive than being surrounded by me.
