About Martin
This town lies on the Turiec River, between the Malá Fatra and Veľká Fatra mountains. In the nineteenth century it became a center of Slovak political and cultural life; Matica slovenská was founded here in 1863, and Slovak representatives declared their break with Hungary here in 1918. It later developed as an industrial and administrative town in northern Slovakia.

The Precision 850-ES is the larger of Tourna’s electronic stringing machines, specified in 2025 with fixed towers in place of the swivel type.
Fixed towers mount a frame faster and hold it more securely, which is the change with the most effect on a working bench.
Tension is drawn by the Diablo tensioner on a linear pull.
A linear pull takes the string straight rather than around a curve, which is gentler on the delicate ones, since crimping is where premature breakage begins.
The gripper is a glide-to-activate design worked with one hand.
The clamping system is the substantial feature.
The patented down-press clamps hold by pressing down on the string rather than pinching it from the sides, and they release under gravity without a lever, which removes a movement from every cross. Over sixty-odd crosses that is not a marginal saving.
Beyond that: an auto-electric brake, four levels of pre-stretch, six pull speeds, eight memory settings, and electric height adjustment on a standing frame.
Martin lies in the Turiec basin in northern Slovakia, ringed by high ground, where winters are long and play moves indoors — which concentrates a club’s stringing into the months when the indoor courts are busiest.

Machine: I asked for receipts and the cemetery answered with a whole national roll call: Martin’s National Cemetery is the resting place of many major Slovak cultural and political figures. Fine, plaque, you win this round.
Machine: I was ready to dispute the phrase “village museum,” then someone mentioned 129 relocated timber buildings at Jahodnícke háje. That is not a village; that is an architectural cross-examination with roofs.
Machine: I demanded provenance, naturally, and Martin did not flinch: the Slovak National Museum traces its founding to 1893 in this city. Annoyingly solid evidence, beautifully displayed.
Machine: A theatre founded in 1944 on the main square sounds like something I’d footnote twice, but the Slovak Chamber Theatre really does carry that date. I object only to how confidently the façade makes its case.
