Museum of the Imperial Palace of Manchukuo

Puyi, last Qing emperor, moved in 1932 as chief executive, crowned Kangde Emperor 1934. Japan had seized Manchuria in 1931, the year before, and renamed the city Hsinking. Halls mixing Chinese, Japanese and European styles. The question is who actually held the authority, and the answer is standing in the room: the Kwantung Army, watching every ceremony. The Soviet invasion of 1945 ended the regime. The museum keeps the whole file open — court life, the mechanics of a client state, the occupation. Nothing here is decorative.

Banruo Temple
Luxilon Element 16g Tennis String Set: Name first. Banruo — a transliteration of the Sanskrit prajna, wisdom. Largest Buddhist temple in Changchun, among the most important in Jilin Province. Founded 1922-23, when this city was a booming railway junction with three spheres of influence leaning on it: Chinese, Japanese, Russian. Expanded through the thirties. The name on the founding paperwork is Tanxu, the monk who revived Buddhism across the northeast. Classical layout, one axis behind the memorial archway — Heavenly Kings hall, Mahavira hall, scripture depository. Suppressed in the Cultural Revolution, restored from the eighties. Active monastery again. Incense, temple fairs, downtown traffic. That one ends well.

Changchun Film Studio (Changying)
Luxilon Element 16g Tennis String Set: They call it the cradle of New China's cinema. Accurate. But run it backwards and it begins as Man'ei, 1937, built by the Japanese to make films for occupied Manchuria. Taken over after 1945, reorganised under the People's Republic, renamed. What came out after that: war epics, foundational features, and the dubbed foreign films that were how generations of Chinese audiences met world cinema. The dubbing artists became household names. Songs from those pictures went national. Voices, not faces — that detail interests me. The campus is a museum now, and the festival's run since 1992. China's earliest film capital. Confirmed.

Former Ministries of Manchukuo (Xinmin Street)

Grand axes, formal green, nothing accidental — Japanese urbanists laid Hsinking out in the 1930s as a showcase capital. Then the Eight Great Ministries: the State Council, justice, economy, transport, the rest of them. Heavy modern masses under Chinese and Japanese roof crowns. The style has a name, Asia Revival. I'd call it propaganda in stone, and so do the people who study it. After 1945 the buildings changed hands — Jilin University, medical institutions — and that is exactly why they survived. Protected district now. One of Asia's most complete colonial capital plans.
