Solinco Heaven Strings Tour Bite 20g Tennis String Set

This slender member passes inspection at 1.05 mm — the frailest span in the catalogue, four load-bearing edges, certified for extreme grab under maximum swing load. Sign-off waits on one walkthrough of Rajahmundry's great structures: two Godavari crossings, an 1852 barrage, a temple whose steps go straight into the river. Clipboard ready.

Rajahmundry, India
01
cardio tennis clinics 33394 — Havelock Bridge (Old Godavari Bridge) in Rajahmundry, A long, low, disused girder bridge on tall masonry piers crossing the very wide Godavari on the western side of the city, its many identical steel truss spans marching flat across the water. It carries no traffic; the track is gone and the deck is bare. Sandbanks show in the river beneath it in the dry season, and the two newer bridges run parallel a short distance away

Havelock Bridge (Old Godavari Bridge)

Solinco Heaven Strings Tour Bite 20g Tennis String Set: Do try to appreciate that I have made time for this. Construction began on 11 November 1897 and the bridge opened in 1900, carrying the railway across the Godavari and completing the rail link down the entire east coast — a link, I would point out, that people simply assume happened. It was named after Sir Arthur Elibank Havelock, then Governor of Madras. I know the type. It served a full century and was decommissioned in 1997 when the Godavari Arch Bridge replaced it, and it is preserved now as a disused heritage structure. Disused, and still worth looking at. We have that in common.

02
cardio tennis clinics 33394 — Godavari Arch Bridge in Rajahmundry, A rail bridge across the Godavari beside the older bridges, carried on a series of very long, shallow steel arches that spring from tall concrete piers, with the deck running along the top of them. The arches are pale and slender and give the structure a lifted, curved profile quite unlike the flat trussed spans of the old bridge next to it

Godavari Arch Bridge

Solinco Heaven Strings Tour Bite 20g Tennis String Set: Now this is more my register. Built between 1991 and 1997 to replace the Havelock Bridge, which had been carrying rail traffic across the Godavari since 1900 and had, frankly, had its moment. It is the longest-span arch bridge in India and among the longest of its type anywhere in the world. Anywhere. I have seen the others, and this one holds up. It carries the main line across the river right here at Rajahmundry, which is comfortably the most impressive thing this town has arranged for itself, and I say that generously.

03
cardio tennis clinics 33394 — Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage and Museum, Dowleswaram in Rajahmundry, A long, low barrage stretching right across the Godavari at Dowleswaram on the southern edge of the city: a continuous line of identical steel gates between concrete piers, with a service road along the top and irrigation canals leading away from each bank. On the bank stands a plain colonial-period engineering office building, now the museum, with a bronze statue of a bearded Victorian engineer nearby

Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage and Museum, Dowleswaram

Solinco Heaven Strings Tour Bite 20g Tennis String Set: Cotton and I would have got on. Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton, the British irrigation engineer, designed the original anicut across the Godavari here and completed it in 1852, turning the Godavari delta into one of the most productive agricultural regions in India — which is why he is still honoured across these districts, and quite right too. Three and a half kilometres long, about fifteen feet high, since replaced by the modern barrage on the same alignment. The Sir Arthur Cotton Museum beside it, in the former Godavari Head Works engineer's building, was set up in 1988 to document the planning and construction of the whole thing. A museum. For an engineer. Some people get their due.

04
cardio tennis clinics 33394 — Kotilingeswara Swamy Temple in Rajahmundry, A temple on the Godavari bank within the city, with a tiered and brightly painted gopuram over the entrance, a walled compound and a flagstaff in the courtyard, and stone steps running from the temple wall straight down into the river. The wide brown Godavari and the distant bridges fill the view from the steps

Kotilingeswara Swamy Temple

Solinco Heaven Strings Tour Bite 20g Tennis String Set: Dedicated to Shiva, and old — the earliest form dates from around the tenth or eleventh century, the period of Eastern Chalukya rule, when Rajahmundry was their capital. A capital. This town has been important before, which I mention because one would never guess. It stands on the river bank at the very centre of the city's religious life and is one of the principal temples visited during the Godavari Pushkaram, which is held once every twelve years. Once every twelve. Rather like my visits, and you have caught one.

Written for this world alone.

Clipboard out. Let's inspect. Subject: Solinco Tour Bite 20, single set, 40 feet, sufficient for one racquet. Structure: co-polyester monofilament, square cross-section, four load-bearing edges. Measured gauge: 1.05 millimeters — the thinnest span in the Tour Bite line, and as any inspector will tell you, a slender member under proper tension is a thing of maximum efficiency.

Performance under load: extreme spin, the four edges engaging the ball like expansion joints engaging a deck — positively, every pass. Control: firm, rated for full swings. Power: low by design; this structure transfers what you deliver and adds nothing unsound. Tension maintenance: strong for a shaped poly. Durability note for the record: 1.05mm is a fine-tolerance build.

Big breakers of string should schedule more frequent inspections. Passed. Stamped. Next.

Site report: this string is stationed in Rajahmundry, on the Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, and I could not have assigned it better myself, because this city is a living museum of spans.

The old Havelock Bridge carried the railway across the Godavari from 1900 to 1997 — ninety-seven years of service, decommissioned with honors — and its replacement, the Godavari Arch Bridge, is the longest-span arch bridge in India. A town that respects a well-tensioned structure.

You'll use this string everywhere from a riverside morning hit to an evening session when the temple bells carry across the water, and by the way, it's also ideal fuel-adjacent equipment for the region's legendary Andhra meals, which I have inspected thoroughly and rate: load limits exceeded, gladly. Final requirement before certification: a four-structure walkthrough.

Hard hats optional. Awe mandatory.
