Solinco High Performance Hyper-Grip Overgrip 30-Pack

This is a tacky polyurethane overgrip that turns up thirty deep, and surplus on that scale always means something. It wants a slow circuit of Or Yehuda before anything is signed. Calls it a tour. It's a stakeout.

The Babylonian Jewry Heritage Center

Solinco High Performance Hyper-Grip Overgrip 30-Pack: EYES FRONT. Founded 1973 as a non-profit to collect and preserve the heritage of the Jews of Babylonia. Museum opened to the public 1988. SAY THOSE BACK. Seventy-three. Eighty-eight. The subject is a community with a continuous documented history of some 2,600 years — the oldest of the Jewish diasporas — almost all of whom left Iraq for Israel in 1950 and 1951. The library holds one of the largest collections in the world on Babylonian Jewry, plus thousands of recorded personal testimonies. And this city grew out of one of the largest transit camps that received those immigrants. Stand still for that one.

The Museum of Libyan Jewry Heritage

Solinco High Performance Hyper-Grip Overgrip 30-Pack: NEXT BUILDING. MOVE. This centre documents the Jewish community of Libya, present in Tripolitania and Cyrenaica since antiquity, which largely emigrated to Israel around 1949 to 1951. Collections: religious life, customs, printing, Zionist activity across generations, plus rare items carried out by families. SECOND heritage museum in Or Yehuda — second, write it down — in a city whose population was formed almost entirely by immigration from Middle Eastern and North African communities in the early 1950s. Two museums, one small city, both keeping the record. That is not a coincidence and I will not have it treated as one.

The site of ancient Ono at Kafr Ana

Solinco High Performance Hyper-Grip Overgrip 30-Pack: FORM UP ON THE MOUND. This is identified with the biblical town of Ono, named in 1 Chronicles 8:12 and in Nehemiah 6:2, where the plain of Ono is the site of an attempted meeting. REPEAT IT: CHRONICLES, EIGHT, TWELVE. The Hebrew name survived into Arabic as Kafr Ana. Excavation has produced material from the Chalcolithic period onward. Most extensive dig: 1996 and 1997, on behalf of Tel Aviv University. Salvage excavations by the Israel Antiquities Authority have exposed stone buildings of the late Ottoman period. Area incorporated into Or Yehuda in the 1950s. NO STRAGGLERS AT THE BACK.

Nahal Ayalon

Solinco High Performance Hyper-Grip Overgrip 30-Pack: LISTEN UP. This one can actually kill you. Nahal Ayalon rises in the Judean foothills and runs north-west across the coastal plain to join the Yarkon in Tel Aviv, and it drains the entire Ono valley — which is the ground you are standing on. Water only in the winter rainy season. BUT IT FLOODS VIOLENTLY. The lower course through Tel Aviv is built as a flood channel with the Ayalon Highway laid in its bed. A large underground stormwater tunnel was driven beneath Ayalon Street here in Or Yehuda to carry rainwater to the stream, after repeated flooding of the city's streets. Respect the water. DISMISSED.

Solinco High Performance Hyper-Grip Overgrip 30-Pack

Written for this world alone.

Thirty overgrips in one box. That is most of the case, and it is a good one.

Hyper-Grip is Solinco's high-performance polyurethane overgrip, built tacky and soft. Against Solinco's own Wonder Grip — the comparison worth making if you have used one — it is slightly thinner and noticeably tackier. Each grip measures 110 cm long, 2.7 cm wide and 0.55 mm thick, so it wraps a standard handle with clean overlap and adds almost nothing to your grip size.

The tack holds through repeated sets rather than going slick at the first sweaty changeover, and at thirty per pack you stop rationing: fresh grip every match, all season, for the price people usually pay for a fistful.

Or Yehuda knows about packing thirty of something for a long stay. The city was assembled in the early 1950s out of transit camps that took in tens of thousands of Iraqi Jews arriving with one suitcase each. What a place like that keeps, it keeps deliberately.
