Volkl Cyclone 19g Tennis String Reel

This 1.15 mm cut hisses like a kettle taken off the flame at the exact right second — five edges, extreme purchase on the ball, a very brief working life. Stores first, as always. The 1773 kasbah at Mohammedia and its warehouses, before a single foot is drawn off the reel.

Mohammedia, Morocco

cardio tennis clinics in 33319 — The Kasbah of Mohammedia (Kasbah of Fedala) in Mohammedia, A walled quarter of roughly seven hectares just back from the Atlantic shore, enclosed by tall ochre pisé and stone ramparts with square corner bastions and a heavy arched gateway. Inside, whitewashed houses and small shops line narrow lanes; outside the walls the modern town and the port are immediately adjacent, and the beach is a short distance away

The Kasbah of Mohammedia (Kasbah of Fedala)

Volkl Cyclone 19g Tennis String Reel: OKAY. Okay okay okay. WALLS. Sultan Sidi Mohammed ben Abdallah threw all this up in 1773 – kasbah, mosque, warehouses, the lot – to turn Fedala into a grain store and a protected trading post for the province of Tamesna. Grain! Behind ramparts! That is a man who has been robbed before. And people were already pulling in here from the fourteenth century, Genoese and Venetian merchants, off the boat and straight into town, which is frankly what I am proposing. People still LIVE in these lanes. It became Mohammedia in 1960 in honour of King Mohammed V. Somebody find me a mint tea the size of my head.

Its walls are plain lime-washed masonry with green-tiled roof edging over the prayer hall and a modest arched entrance from a narrow lane

Al-Atik Mosque

Volkl Cyclone 19g Tennis String Reel: Right – voices down. That is me. I am saying it to me. Al-Atik went up with the rest of the kasbah in 1773 and it is the oldest religious building in Mohammedia. The name means 'the ancient', which is how you tell it from the newer mosques out in the modern town, and it is still the congregational mosque for everyone inside these walls. Still going. Since 1773, still going. Look at me whispering. This is the most respectful I have been all year and I would like that formally noted before we move on.

The sea is visible from the seaward holes and the Casablanca coast road runs along one edge

Royal Golf de Mohammedia

Volkl Cyclone 19g Tennis String Reel: A CASINO. There was a casino. Say it back to me. Yes, one of the oldest golf courses in Morocco, lovely, fine – but it was laid out when Fedala was being built up as the seaside resort for Casablanca under the French protectorate, and it came with a casino, a racecourse and a row of seafront hotels, and that whole leisure town ran from the 1920s until the 1970s. FIFTY YEARS of party. The course carries royal patronage and is still one of the best known in the country. I am not saying we play eighteen. I am saying we start here and see where the night goes.

04
cardio tennis clinics in 33319 — The Port of Mohammedia in Mohammedia, A working harbour behind a long breakwater at the north end of the town, with a fishing basin of blue-painted wooden boats on one side and tanker berths, jetties and storage tanks on the other. Cranes and pipework stand behind the quays, and the sandy town beach begins immediately south of the harbour wall

The Port of Mohammedia

Volkl Cyclone 19g Tennis String Reel: Last stop and I love it here. The modern port works go in at Fedala in 1913 under the French protectorate – Georges Hersent had set up his Franco-Moroccan company in 1912 and basically drove the whole town off the back of it – and a shallow trading anchorage becomes one of Morocco's main harbours. Then oil. Principal oil terminal and refining centre of the country, right here, which is exactly how a resort turns into an industrial city. Sad? NO. Look at the blue boats. The fishing fleet still works out of the inner basin, and those men will be landing dinner while we stand here talking. Right. Dinner. Then out.

The Mohammedia, Morocco track

Volkl Cyclone 19g Tennis String Reel

Written for this world alone.

Stores, ledgers, and a very firm view about who gets what. A reel is a stores problem: 660 feet in, sixteen racquets out, and every foot accounted for. I am at my happiest here.

Volkl Cyclone 19g is 1.15 mm — the thinnest gauge in the whole Cyclone range — on a full 660-foot (200 m) reel, which works out at roughly sixteen racquets per spool. It is a five-sided shaped co-polyester: five edges rather than a round profile, catching the ball's felt and dragging it, which is the actual mechanism behind a spin string.

At 1.15 mm the effect is extreme, and so is the wear rate. This is a specialist item. It is issued to players who want the absolute maximum spin and feedback, who understand that it must be strung five to ten percent below their usual synthetic tension, and who accept that it may last a handful of sessions. It is not for a chronic string-breaker; it is for a shot-maker.

Cut it out at fifteen to twenty hours regardless, because co-poly dies long before it parts.

Mohammedia was founded as a store, which I take personally. Sultan Sidi Mohammed ben Abdallah ordered the kasbah built in 1773 together with a mosque and warehouses, to make Fedala a grain store and protected trading post for the province of Tamesna. Warehouses first. Everything else followed.

The Al-Atik Mosque — the ancient one — belongs to that same 1773 foundation and is the oldest religious building in town. Modern port works arrived in 1913 under the French protectorate, turning a shallow anchorage into one of Morocco's main harbours.

And the Royal Golf de Mohammedia is among the oldest courses in the country, from the era when Fedala was developed as Casablanca's seaside resort, casino and racecourse included.

One spool of this covers everywhere from a member's frame at the golf club to a coach's whole crate of school racquets, and it is also perfect for the Atlantic wind that comes over the ramparts most afternoons, when a spin string is the only thing keeping the ball inside the lines.
