Careful with this one, because it is the piece of equipment people think about least and lose points to most. The Pro Response is Babolat's plain overgrip: a standard surface texture, not perforated, wound over whatever grip is already on your handle.
No holes punched through it, which matters more than it sounds — perforated grips can go greasy in patches once they fill, and a patchy grip is worse than a uniformly tired one, because you do not know where the slip is until it happens. This one wears evenly. You can feel it going. That is the whole point.
I worry about consistency, so let me be exact about what this is and is not. It is durable, it is built for repeated play, and it is designed to hold the same way on the first day and the fourth. It is not a cushioning build-up grip and it will not thicken your handle much.
If you want tack you can hang from, that is a different grip in the range.
If you want to know precisely what your hand will find every time you reach for the racquet, this is it.
You will use it everywhere from a freezing indoor hall in Turku in February to a sweltering outdoor court back home in July, and by the way, it is also perfect for the long walk out to Ruissalo, because a grip is one of the very few things in a tennis bag you can replace on a bench in four minutes with nothing but your hands.
Turku Castle stands at the river mouth in grey stone begun in 1280, rebuilt after a wartime fire, which is the sort of sentence that makes me check the smoke alarms. Upstream is the Cathedral, the country's mother church, holding Karin Månsdotter's tomb.
Turku is a good place to be careful in.
And Luostarinmäki is a whole quarter of wooden workshops still standing on its original plots after the fire of 1827 took nearly everything else — an entire district that survived because of where it happened to be, which is either luck or drainage and I would like to know which before I sleep.
"One district survived the fire of 1827 by pure position. I would still like to know where its exits were."
