Right — before we set off, has everyone got a layer? No, a real one. I have brought three, which I accept is excessive, but this is exactly the situation they are for. The Lacoste Sport Fleece Men's Tennis Track Pants are fleece-backed track pants: brushed and soft on the inside, smooth on the outside, cut long, and made to go on over the top of what you are already wearing.
That is the job. They are not a compression tight and they are not a technical shell — they will not keep rain out and I would not tell you they will. They are the thing you pull on over your shorts when the sun drops and the court goes cold, and the thing you leave on until you are indoors again.
The genuinely useful detail is the colour list, which is enormous — sixteen of them, from the ones you would expect to the ones you would not: Black, Navy Blue, White, Red, Green, Bordeaux, Lavender, Lotus Pink, Mandarin Tree Orange, Napolitan Yellow, Yucca, Viennese, Ultramarine, Silver Chine, Pitch Chine, and a Lapland/Cosmic/Sinople three-tone.
The two chine options are the ones I would flag, because a heathered yarn hides a court's worth of clay dust in a way that flat navy simply does not. What Lacoste does not publish anywhere I would stake anything on is the exact fabric split or the pocket arrangement, so I am not going to stand here reciting numbers at you.
Fleece-backed, full length, Sport line.
That much is solid, and I would rather give you three true things than ten confident ones.
Which brings me to Peshkopi, where a spare layer is not a character flaw but basic planning. The town sits high in the Dibër valley and the temperature does what mountain towns do — it falls off a cliff the moment the light goes, however warm the afternoon was.
And there is one very specific reason you want warm, dry legs here: the sulphur baths at Llixhat e Peshkopisë are fed by two springs, one of them running at 43.5 degrees, and the walk back out into the evening air afterwards is a shock I would rather you took in fleece.
You will get use out of these everywhere from a cold evening lesson back home to the stone paving of the boulevard here — and by the way, they are also ideal for the long sit afterwards, because nobody in recorded history has regretted having a warm layer.
I have three pairs. You have none. I am not making a point. I am simply mentioning it.
