Sergio Tacchini Damarindo Velour Track Men's Tennis Pants

A value buy earns its tag when the fit still works three seasons on. 93/7 polyester-spandex velour gives the Damarindo its give; the drawcord gets metal tips, ST is embroidered on the thigh, rear zipped welt pocket takes a key. Garrison Hill cemetery stays off my price check in Kohima.

Kohima, India
01
Flagler Village tennis fitness classes — Sergio Tacchini Damarindo Velour Track Men's Tennis Pants at the Kohima War Cemetery stepping down Garrison Hill
Stop one

the Kohima War Cemetery stepping down Garrison Hill in 1,420 graves

Sergio Tacchini Damarindo Velour Track Men's Tennis Pants: Garrison Hill gives you 1,420 graves and exactly zero room to complain about value. The view is layered, the history is heavy, and the price of reflection is thankfully not marked up.

02
Flagler Village tennis fitness classes — Sergio Tacchini Damarindo Velour Track Men's Tennis Pants at the Cathedral of Reconciliation in Kohima
Stop two

the Cathedral of Reconciliation, raised partly with Japanese money

Sergio Tacchini Damarindo Velour Track Men's Tennis Pants: A cathedral raised partly with Japanese money after World War II is the kind of long-term reconciliation package no coupon stack can improve. I checked: peace is still the best bargain on the hill.

03
Flagler Village tennis fitness classes — Sergio Tacchini Damarindo Velour Track Men's Tennis Pants by carved totem pillars at the Nagaland State Museum
Stop three

the Nagaland State Museum and its carved totem pillars

Sergio Tacchini Damarindo Velour Track Men's Tennis Pants: The Nagaland State Museum bundles tribal artifacts, textiles, and carved totem pillars like a cultural combo deal. If history had a clearance rack, this place would still refuse to look cheap.

04
Flagler Village tennis fitness classes — Sergio Tacchini Damarindo Velour Track Men's Tennis Pants among the morungs of Kisama Heritage Village
Stop four

the morungs of Kisama Heritage Village on the ridge south of town

Sergio Tacchini Damarindo Velour Track Men's Tennis Pants: Kisama Heritage Village lines up Naga-style morungs on the ridge south of town, which is basically one-stop comparison shopping for architecture. The free view does half the sales pitch before the pants even enter the frame.

Written for this world alone.

Let me tell you where the value is in this one, because it is not where you think. Everyone looks at velour and sees luxury. Look at the composition instead: ninety-three per cent polyester, seven per cent spandex. That seven per cent is the whole purchase. Velour with no stretch is a pair of curtains you have to walk in.

Velour with spandex moves, recovers, and does not go baggy at the knee by March — and a garment that does not bag out is a garment you are still wearing in three years, which is the only value calculation that matters.

Then check the fittings, because that is where corners get cut and it is where you find out what something is really worth. Rib-knit elasticated waistband with a metal-tipped drawcord — metal, not moulded plastic, and the plastic ones are what snap. The ST monogram embroidered at the left thigh, embroidery rather than a transfer.

Contrast double stripes down the legs.

Side-seam pockets. A zippered welt pocket at the rear right, and the zip is the tell: an unzipped back pocket is decoration, a zipped one holds a key. What it is not is a court trouser for hot weather — velour is plush and it is warm, and that is the honest trade for how it feels.

Rib-knit ankle cuffs, regular fit.

Kohima knows about honest accounting better than any town I have visited. The war cemetery steps down Garrison Hill in one thousand four hundred and twenty graves. That is the number. There is no other way to say it and no lesson I would dare attach to it. The Cathedral of Reconciliation above the town was raised partly with Japanese money, which is a harder and better thing than anything I could add.

Seven per cent spandex. That is the difference between three years of wear and one.
