Smith Parallel 2 Sport Sunglasses

Smith’s Parallel 2 is a sport sunglass with full UV protection and swappable lenses—sorry, that sounds bossy; it just means tint remorse gets a pardon, if that’s okay… Amul’s earth ramparts, jewellers by dairy stalls in the bazaar, and a man-made beach sit in Türkmenabat.

Stop one

the earth ramparts of Amul on the southern edge of town

Smith Parallel 2 Sport Sunglasses: Sorry, I set the sunglasses by the earth ramparts of Amul on the southern edge of town, as if the ramparts needed my tiny fashion interruption. They were already very good at being earth ramparts, and I can stop talking now if that helps…

02
Fort Lauderdale advanced cardio tennis clinics — Smith Parallel 2 Sport Sunglasses at Dunya Bazar with jewellers and dairy stalls in Türkmenabat
Stop two

Dunya Bazar, jewellers and dairy stalls under one roof

Smith Parallel 2 Sport Sunglasses: Um, here they are at Dunya Bazar, where jewellers and dairy stalls are under one roof, which is a braver pairing than anything I have ever attempted. Sorry, the sunglasses are just trying not to look too impressed.

Fort Lauderdale advanced cardio tennis clinics — Smith Parallel 2 Sport Sunglasses photographed at the Ruhyyet Palace on the main square in Türkmenabat
Stop three

the Ruhyyet Palace on the main square

Smith Parallel 2 Sport Sunglasses: I’m sorry, the Smith Parallel 2 Sport Sunglasses are posing at the Ruhyyet Palace on the main square, and somehow the building is handling the attention much better than I am. I’ll be over here apologizing to the square…

04
Fort Lauderdale advanced cardio tennis clinics — Smith Parallel 2 Sport Sunglasses at Zaton made beach on the Amu Darya near Türkmenabat
Stop four

Zaton, the made beach on the Amu Darya five kilometres out

Smith Parallel 2 Sport Sunglasses: Sorry, this is Zaton, the made beach on the Amu Darya five kilometres out, and the sunglasses appear to be acting like they packed sunscreen. I didn’t, obviously, because confidence felt excessive.

Written for this world alone.

Sorry — is now a bad time? I only want to say one thing about these and then I will stop, honestly.

The Parallel 2 is a sport sunglass from Smith, and the thing I would gently mention is the interchangeable lens. It is the feature people skip past and it is the one that actually changes anything.

A fixed lens is a single decision made once in a shop, and it will be wrong for a good proportion of the light you actually play in — too dark at six in the evening, not dark enough at noon on a bright hard court.

A frame that takes different lenses lets you correct that afterwards, which is really just permission to have been wrong the first time, and I find that quite a kind design. There is full ultraviolet protection, which is not optional and which I would not want to undersell just because it is standard.

Smith has been making sport optics since 1965.

What I will not do is describe a lens tint or a fit I have not confirmed, because I would rather tell you less and have all of it be true. Sorry.

I know that is not much of a sales pitch.

Turkmenabat is somewhere I would rather talk about anyway. On the southern edge of town there are earth ramparts left from Amul — an old caravan city, and what remains is the shape of walls in the ground, which is a quiet way for something enormous to end. Dunya Bazar puts jewellers and dairy stalls under one roof, which nobody planned and everybody accepts.

The Ruhyyet Palace stands on the main square. And out at Zaton, five kilometres away, they made a beach on the Amu Darya, which — sorry — I find genuinely lovely.

Permission to have been wrong the first time. I wish more things offered that.
