Les Tres Xemeneies (Three Chimneys)
Asics Court Flytefoam 3 Men's Tennis Shoes: Three chimneys, each roughly 200 metres, left standing on the seafront where the FECSA thermal power station was built in the 1970s — and this is a love story, though it does not begin as one. During construction, in April 1973, a workers' strike over conditions ended with police firing on the crowd and killing the worker Manuel Fernández Márquez, and Sant Adrià has never let go of his name. The station ceased operation in 2011 and the chimneys were to be demolished, until the people who had lived their whole lives beneath them campaigned until that decision was reversed. That is what devotion looks like when it is not pretty. They kept the towers, and redevelopment now centres on the structures they saved.

Parish Church of Sant Adrià

The parish of Sant Adrià is documented as early as the year 1012, and the settlement on the banks of the Besòs grew around it — a thousand years of people meeting, marrying and being carried out through the same door, in one building after another. The present one was constructed in the 1940s, after the destruction of the earlier church during the Spanish Civil War: a large nave, lateral chapels, a semicircular apse, a dome, and a facade framed by two towers, the taller serving as the bell tower. It is still the principal religious building of the municipality, and it is the reason the town carries the name it does. Buildings go. The name stays. Sigh with me.

MhiC – Museu d'història de la immigració de Catalunya

The Museum of the History of Immigration of Catalonia, the MhiC, opened in 2004 in the Can Serra farmhouse, dedicated to the waves of migration that shaped modern Catalonia — above all the great mid-twentieth-century arrival of workers from southern Spain who settled in Sant Adrià and the industrial belt around Barcelona. Documents, photographs and personal testimonies sit alongside larger objects, including a railway carriage of the type that carried migrants north on the journey remembered as El Sevillano. Imagine the promises made on that train. Sant Adrià itself grew dramatically through exactly that migration, drawn by the factories.
