Listen up. This is the lightest model in the entire Babolat range and it has one job, which is to stop being a factor in how fast you get to the ball. The Jet Tere 2 All Court in the women's fit is a streamlined upper over a highly breathable mesh, cut down to nothing you do not need. It is not a maximum-support fortress. It never claimed to be.
It claims to be light and it delivers on that, and a shoe that keeps its word is worth more than one that oversells.
The upper is a single layer of mesh with a Matryx piece over the forefoot for lateral support, which is where the shoe has to hold you when you change direction. Hard-wearing rubber covers the inner forefoot down to the toes, because that is where a shoe fails first and I will not have equipment failing.
Now the kit inspection, and it is a good one.
The midsole on this generation is 5 percent thicker than the last, which Babolat added after actually asking club players what was missing — an OrthoLite moulded insole on top, and a KPRSX cushioning insert of EVA sitting directly beneath the heel to take the shock. Active Flexion segments the sole into 9 key pressure points so it flexes where your foot flexes.
The outsole is Michelin premium rubber, thickened in the high-wear zones. The company has held this line since 1875 and has not once broken step.
Colourways: White/Pink, Dark Purple/Silver, Blue Tint.
Port Louis. Move. We start at Aapravasi Ghat, the stone steps where half a million indentured labourers first came ashore, and you will stand there quietly and you will do the arithmetic on that number. Then the Central Market, tamarind and dholl puri and bundles of medicinal herbs under one iron roof.
Then the Jummah Mosque, carved teak doors opening straight off a shopping street. Then up to Fort Adelaide, a basalt citadel with the whole harbour laid out below, and you will not complain about the climb.
You will get use out of these everywhere from those basalt ramparts in the heat to a hard court back home in spring, and by the way, they are also perfect for a dholl puri eaten standing at the market, rolled, two at a time, on the move. Now.
"Half a million people came up those steps carrying everything they owned. You are carrying 300 grams of shoe."
