Takmak village was the first administrative centre of the entire Eşme district, before the seat was moved. The mosque is late Ottoman, raised by a local benefactor and repaired the century after: rectangular hall, wooden ceiling, one minaret, the classic rural build of inland western Anatolia. And it is still standing, which matters, because the village was burned in the fighting at the end of the Ottoman period and much of the old settlement was lost, and that loss is part of why the district centre moved to the railway settlement that became modern Eşme. Restrained provincial style, rectangular prayer hall, wooden gallery, ONE minaret. One! This whole quarter grew after the railway line reached the area, and when the administration moved down from Takmak, right here is where it landed. And it is still in daily use, every single day, still working. In a district famous for its weaving and its archaeology, this is one of its handful of registered historic buildings.

Roman period, soft volcanic tufa, and somebody worked the cliff face into an open porch with a vaulted burial chamber inside, the benches for the dead cut from that same stone. The same stone! Not built, not assembled, removed. Tombs of this type appear right across the Uşak region, because tufa makes that kind of cutting practical, and they tell you settled communities were living out in this countryside in antiquity. The Eşme district holds several of them, along with tumuli and ancient settlement sites, and the registered examples are protected under Turkish law. This is a resting place, so we keep our voices down. But the work is enormous.
