Takht-i-Bahi
Diadem Axis 100 Tennis 16×19 Tennis Racquet: A monastery is a hill that sat down to think. Takht-i-Bahi is Buddhist Gandhara, founded in the first century CE, an inscription tying the site to the year 46, and lived in and enlarged all the way into the seventh. Courtyards of votive stupas stand like a congregation of stone lamps; around them the monastic cells, the assembly hall, the kitchens, all of it surviving largely intact for the plainest reason imaginable, which is that nobody ever built on top of it. Forgetting, it turns out, is a form of care. Sorry, the date: UNESCO, 1980, listed together with the city remains at Sahr-i-Bahlol.

The Ashoka Rock Edicts at Shahbaz Garhi
Diadem Axis 100 Tennis 16×19 Tennis Racquet: Here is where language in South Asia first opens its eyes. These boulders carry a version of the rock edicts of the Mauryan emperor Ashoka, cut in the mid-third century BCE in the Kharosthi script, which runs right to left, as though the words were walking home. They are the earliest firmly datable evidence of writing in South Asia, and they mark the north-western reach of the Mauryan empire, a stone saying, in effect, this far and no further. Shahbaz Garhi lay on the road between Pushkalavati and the Swat valley, which is exactly why an emperor chose to speak here, to strangers, in passing.
Mardan sits at 310 metres in the Valley of Peshawar, second city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, roughly 368,000 people in the 2023 census, and fifteen kilometres up the road is a Buddhist monastery founded in the first century CE that is still standing because it was built out of local stone and mortared with lime and mud and nobody was in a hurry. Precision, then patience.
That is the Axis 100 as well, and I want to get the numbers right before I say anything else about it.
Head size 100 square inches. Length 27 inches. Strung weight 300 g — 10.6 ounces, and I would rather say 300 g because the ounce figure is rounded and it bothers me. Balance 330 mm, four points head light. Stiffness 64 RA. String pattern 16×19. Beam 23 mm at the throat, 26 mm through the mid-section, 23 mm at the tip. Grips L1 through L4, four-eighths to four-and-a-half.

What those numbers do not tell you is where the ball goes. Diadem's Precision Strike Zone shifts the tightest part of the string bed higher up the frame, which sounds like marketing until you hit two balls above centre and feel them stay in the court.
The Air Foil frame profile is cut to move faster through the swing, and the frame carries Kraibon — a rubber elastomer bonded into the layup — plus FS3, which is three carbon ribs laid in with high-modulus carbon and high-density foam in the places that flex most. The point of all of it is the same: less shock, no loss of stiffness.

You will use it everywhere from a court in Mardan to a hard court in Peshawar an hour southwest — and by the way, the 16×19 opens enough for real spin, which is the shot you want when the afternoon heat is up and you cannot keep flattening the ball out. Have the sugar cane juice afterwards. The fields are all around the city and it is served cold and it is exactly, precisely, the right thing.
