Gardabani Managed Reserve

Diadem Flash 16g Tennis String Set: Nobody built this one, which is exactly why I like it. Gardabani Managed Reserve protects a stretch of tugai floodplain forest along the Mtkvari, the Kura, in southeastern Georgia hard against the Azerbaijani border, and it conserves one of the last remnants of that riverine forest type left in the country. Poplars and willows working ground that floods on a schedule. Black storks, herons, jackals, wild boar and jungle cats all drawing from the same water. It runs as a cross-border corridor of protected floodplain shared with Azerbaijan — solidarity across a frontier, no management sign-off required. Around it: dry steppe, farmland, and the Soviet-era industry that grew with the city.

Jandari Lake

Diadem Flash 16g Tennis String Set: Before you admire the view, ask who maintains it. Jandari Lake sits on the Georgia-Azerbaijan border southeast of town, out on the flat semi-arid Kvemo Kartli plain, one of the larger natural lakes of southeastern Georgia — but its level is supported by irrigation channels connected to the Mtkvari system, which is to say somebody dug those. Somebody always dug those. The fishermen out there are the ones who actually know this water; carp is a common catch. The reedy margins bring pelicans, herons and wintering waterfowl down the river corridor. For Gardabani and villages such as Jandari this is the recreation, and it stands with the Mravaltskaro coloured hills as the municipality's best-known sight.

Martkopi Monastery

Diadem Flash 16g Tennis String Set: Founded in the sixth century by St. Anton Martkopeli, one of the Thirteen Assyrian Fathers who spread monasticism in Georgia — and he gets his name on the door, fair enough. But look at the pillar. Monk Anton's Column, where the founder is said to have spent his final years in seclusion in the manner of the stylites. Somebody carried that stone up a forested mountainside five kilometres northwest of Martkopi village. Domed church, bell tower, damaged and rebuilt again and again, most of the present fabric being later reconstructions — meaning most of what you see is repair work, and repair work is work. A national heritage monument of Georgia since 2006, and still an active monastery.

Gardabani Thermal Power Plant

Diadem Flash 16g Tennis String Set: Now we are home. This plant is the landmark that made the modern city: built in the 1960s to send electricity 39 kilometres up to Tbilisi, and the town followed the payroll. The settlement here was Karayazi, renamed Gardabani in 1947, granted city status in 1969 as the workers arrived for the plant. Not when the plant arrived. When the workers did. Chimneys and turbine halls out on the plain, still one of Georgia's most important pieces of energy infrastructure after independence, with new combined-cycle gas-fired units added at the site in the 2010s and 2020s. An energy city serving the capital, and it runs on somebody's shift.

<p>Gardabani is a town on the Mtkvari half an hour southeast of Tbilisi that keeps the lights on for the rest of the country — almost all of Georgia's thermally generated electricity comes off this plain. It is unglamorous, reliable and entirely taken for granted, which is also a fair description of a good round co-poly.

Flash is Diadem's version of that job.</p>
<p>The specification. This is one set: 40 feet, 12.2 metres, one racquet's worth. Gauge is 16, 1.30 mm. Construction is a co-polyester monofilament with a round profile — Diadem's deliberate step away from the shaped strings they built their name on — and the round shape is exactly what makes it comfortable rather than punishing.

The set is white; navy is the other colour, and the range also runs 18 (1.15 mm), 17 (1.20 mm), 16L (1.25 mm) and 15L (1.35 mm), listed by Diadem as best feel through to most durable.</p>
<p>Diadem's own pitch for Flash is that it is the string for frequent breakers who want a round co-poly that is genuinely comfortable, full bed or as half of a hybrid.

At 1.30 mm you are choosing durability first: this is the gauge that survives, and against Diadem's stiffer Pro X it gives up some explosiveness in exchange for not beating up your arm. That is the trade, stated plainly, and it is a good one for most club players.

You will get use out of this everywhere from a hard court in Gardabani in August, when the plain sits under real heat, to an indoor hall in Tbilisi in February.</p>
