Dunlop CX 200 Tour Tennis Racquet

95 in², 310 g and a 16×19 bed, the balance sitting low in your palm — a grown-up control frame with a little more forgiveness than its stricter sister. Now, have you eaten? Lugano can sort that out on the way down to the lake.

Lugano, Switzerland
01
classes for tennis Fort Lauderdale — Dunlop CX 200 Tour Tennis Racquet in Piazza della Riforma with the Palazzo Civico facade across the square
Stop one

Piazza della Riforma, the Palazzo Civico's long facade across the square

Dunlop CX 200 Tour Tennis Racquet: Sweetheart, here it is in Piazza della Riforma, Lugano’s main square, with Palazzo Civico keeping watch like my cousin Marta at a family buffet. That building is the city hall, so stand up straight, and please eat something before you serve.

02
classes for tennis Fort Lauderdale — Dunlop CX 200 Tour Tennis Racquet inside Santa Maria degli Angioli near Luini's Crucifixion fresco
Stop two

Santa Maria degli Angioli, Luini's Crucifixion fresco crowded with figures

Dunlop CX 200 Tour Tennis Racquet: Sweetheart, Santa Maria degli Angioli holds Bernardino Luini’s great Crucifixion fresco from the Renaissance, and there are so many figures in it I worry someone forgot to bring sandwiches. My cousin would say even the back row looks hungry.

03
classes for tennis Fort Lauderdale — Dunlop CX 200 Tour Tennis Racquet on the lakeside lawns of Parco Ciani near Villa Ciani
Stop three

Parco Ciani, lakeside lawns around the old Villa Ciani

Dunlop CX 200 Tour Tennis Racquet: Sweetheart, Parco Ciani sits right along Lake Lugano around the old Villa Ciani, which is exactly where my cousin would spread a picnic and then tell everyone they are too thin. Swing gently here; even the lawns look well brought up.

04
classes for tennis Fort Lauderdale — Dunlop CX 200 Tour Tennis Racquet by the Monte Bre funicular climbing above Lake Lugano
Stop four

the Monte Bre funicular climbing to 925 metres above the lake

Dunlop CX 200 Tour Tennis Racquet: Sweetheart, the Monte Bre funicular climbs up to Monte Bre at about 925 metres above the lake, which is high enough that my knees start writing complaint letters. Take the view, take the racquet, and take a snack for the ride.

The Lugano, Switzerland track

Dunlop CX 200 Tour Tennis Racquet

Written for this world alone.

Sit down, sweetheart, put the bag down, and let me look at you. Now. This racquet. It is a serious one, and I do not want you buying it because it looks handsome, although it does. The CX200 Tour has a 95 square inch head, 310 grams of frame before a single string goes in, and a 16×19 bed, which is the open version of the pattern.

Open means the mains have room to move, so the ball comes off with more bite and a little more height than the tighter one gives you. If you have not got a swing yet, this will be hard work, and I say that with love.

It is a control frame all the same.

The balance is 315 millimetres and properly head-light, which is why 310 grams does not feel like a shovel when the ball comes back quicker than you expected. Stiffness is 65 RA, on the softer side, which your elbow will thank you for in ten years even if you will not thank me now.

Here is what is inside it, because you should know what you are carrying.

Sonic Core with Infinergy is set into both sides of the head — that is the springy BASF material that gives you a bit back and takes the shock out. Vibroshield sits in the frame at three and nine o'clock and down in the throat. Powergrid Stringtech+ opens up the cross strings through the middle. Control Frame Geometry keeps the whole thing steady when you are stretched.

It arrives unstrung, so have it done properly by someone who asks you questions first.

And it wants to go to Lugano, which is a place I would send anybody who needs feeding and a sit-down. You come out onto Piazza della Riforma with the long front of the Palazzo Civico across it, you order something, and the afternoon simply goes. Then, when you are ready, walk down to Parco Ciani, lakeside lawns and old trees around the Villa Ciani, and let the water do the rest.

You will get use out of this frame everywhere from a warm evening by the lake to a cold indoor court back home, and by the way — my cousin's boy took the Monte Brè funicular up to 925 metres, ate three courses at the top, and came down a changed man. Take a jumper.

"An open bed, a soft flex, and a frame that lets you grow old on court."
