Stop one

Meydan Medresesi

Luxilon Element Rough 16g Tennis String Set: One tries not to gush. The Meydan Medresesi is the finest historic building in Hakkâri, and its entrance tablet dates it 1700-1701 — practically last week. Local cut stone, rectangular plan, a two-storey arcaded courtyard nobody now has the patience to build. For two centuries the principal school of a mountain town that was seat of the Kurdish emirs of Hakkâri, whose semi-autonomous emirate held these ranges between the Ottoman and Persian spheres. Its students came from valleys where Kurdish tribes and Assyrian Christian communities lived interwoven until the upheavals of the First World War. Restored latterly, it keeps cultural exhibitions and an ethnographic collection: chief monument of Hakkâri's old learning.

Stop two

Çölemerik Castle

Luxilon Element Rough 16g Tennis String Set: Do mind the scree; one's shoes were not built for it. Çölemerik Castle crowns the heights above Hakkâri — Çölemerik being the town's old name, which I keep using, the change being so recent. It guarded the seat of the emirs of Hakkâri, a Kurdish dynasty claiming Abbasid descent, precisely the pedigree one does not misplace. From the late Middle Ages they ruled these all-but-impenetrable mountains, balancing Ottoman sultans against Persian shahs while exercising real independence over valleys of Kurdish tribes and the Assyrian Christians of the Church of the East. From here they administered justice, levied tribute and conducted feuds, until the nineteenth century's centralising reforms dismantled the emirate. The view has weathered better than the family.

Stop three

Melik Esat (Asiret) Mosque

Luxilon Element Rough 16g Tennis String Set: The Melik Esat Mosque — the Aşiret Mosque, if you insist — is among the city's oldest Islamic monuments, associated by tradition with the medieval rulers titled Melik. A title one no longer hears announced at dinner. Its sturdy stone is the building manner of these mountains: dressed stone, timber roofs, answering winters that do not negotiate. It served the town through the emirate and into Ottoman provincial rule, its congregation drawn from where the Kurdish Muslim and Assyrian Christian worlds met; the region held the patriarchal seat of the Church of the East until 1915. Restored and still in use, it forms with the Meydan Medresesi the surviving core of old Çölemerik.

04
cardio tennis lessons Fort Lauderdale — Zeynel Bey Medresesi in Hakkâri, A compact ruined stone madrasa with arched niches and collapsed vaults on a slope overlooking a valley town ringed by high peaks
Stop four

Zeynel Bey Medresesi

Luxilon Element Rough 16g Tennis String Set: The Zeynel Bey Medresesi, attributed to a scion of the ruling house of the emirs, belongs to the small but precious inventory of monuments left from the emirate era — a younger son's commission, judging by the frontage. Madrasas of this kind made a remote capital a centre of learning, training clerics and judges for the tribal districts of the wildest corner of Anatolia. Cut-stone walls, modest scale: mountain architecture, sober and fortress-like, improved by having no ornament to fuss over. Time, earthquakes and a turbulent modern history have weathered it. It is promoted today alongside the Meydan Medresesi and Çölemerik Castle on the heritage route — evidence of Hakkâri's deeper identity beyond its frontier reputation.

The Hakkâri, Turkey track

Luxilon Element Rough 16g Tennis String Set

Written for this world alone.

Good morning, class. Your regular string is out today, so I'll be covering. My name is written on the board: LUXILON ELEMENT ROUGH, that's one word, ELEMENT, and yes, this will be on the quiz.

Now, according to the lesson plan your regular string left me — and I WILL be following it — the Element Rough 16g Tennis String Set is built on Multi-Mono technology: flexible fibers inside a durable polymer matrix, which gives you monofilament durability with multifilament comfort. Who can tell me what the 'Rough' means? Anyone?

It's a textured surface that grips the ball for extra spin. Correct. Gauge 16, 1.30 mm, one of the softest control strings Luxilon offers, so no one's elbow gets sent to the nurse. Eyes forward, we have a field trip.

Today's unit: Hakkâri, Turkey — and frankly, class, this is the best field trip in the binder, because Hakkâri was a city OF schools. Tucked in the wildest mountains of Anatolia, seat of the Kurdish emirs of Hakkâri, this remote capital built madrasas — religious colleges — of cut local stone, and taught students drawn from the surrounding valleys for centuries.

The Meydan Medresesi, finished 1700-1701, still stands with its two-storey arcaded courtyard. That's a school that's held class for over three hundred years, people, and it never once let students claim the homework blew off a mountain.

You'll use this string everywhere from the town courts to a walk beneath Çölemerik Castle, and — extra credit — the region's famous ballı kaymak, honey with clotted cream, is an acceptable packed lunch. Single file, please.

And by the way, class, it is also perfect for a morning spent sitting in the courtyard of the Meydan Medresesi with a notebook, which is precisely what that building was put up for. Copy that down.
