Nike Vapor X Junior Tennis Shoes

Proper junior equipment rather than kid stuff: a low-profile Zoom Air heel unit, a full-length foot frame against sideways slide, Dynamic Fit through the upper, and extra traction round the outsole perimeter where an explosive turn loads it. Dornbirn next, and the gorge behind the town is audio, not photo.

Written for this world alone.

Okay so first of all the light in here is doing something and I need everyone to just notice that for one second. Thank you. Right. Junior shoes. This is giving proper equipment, not kid stuff, and I want to be clear about the difference because it matters.

The Court Vapor X junior takes its fit and its styling from one of the most loved Vapors ever made — that is the reference, that is the lineage, and it is not the adult shoe shrunk down, it is styled after it, which is a different and more honest thing.

What is actually in it: a Zoom Air unit in the heel, low-profile and responsive, so a growing player lands on something that gives a little back. A full-length foot frame, which is the structure running the whole length of the shoe to stop the foot sliding sideways off the platform when they change direction, and children change direction constantly and without warning.

Nike's Dynamic Fit system through the upper for a glove-like hold, with a padded collar so nothing rubs at the ankle. Underneath, a generative outsole design that puts extra traction around the perimeter of the sole, because that is where the shoe is loaded during an explosive turn, plus thicker tread in the high-wear zones. Laces, not a strap. Junior sizes 1.0 to 6.0.

Dornbirn is unbelievably photogenic and I am not going to pretend otherwise. The Rotes Haus on the Marktplatz is a red timbered house from 1639 and it is genuinely the main character of the square — that colour against that timber, in that light, is doing more work than most buildings manage in a century.

You will wear these everywhere from a junior squad session to a whole tournament weekend, and while you are here — the Rappenlochschlucht is a huge gorge cut into the rock behind the town, and the walkways run right through it, and the sound in there is enormous.

Then the Rolls-Royce Museum out in the Gutle district, which is the largest collection of its kind anywhere, which is a sentence I did not expect to be saying in a town this size. And finally the Karren cable car, up to the rock ledge above the Rhine valley. Are we getting this?

Please tell me we are getting this.

"Not the adult shoe shrunk down. Styled after it, which is a different and more honest thing."
