Tazadit open-pit iron mine

Sorry, yes, the human part: ore was recorded as worked from the Kediet ej Jill as early as the eleventh century, and industrial extraction began in 1952, when Miferma was created for the deposits of the Kedia d'Idjil. Mining centre here, port at Nouadhibou, power plants at both, 700 km of railway between them. Concessions from 1958, nationalised as SNIM in 1974. Further deposits at Guelb el Rhein in 1981 and Guelb Mhadaouat in 1990. Right. Back to the rock.

Kediet ej Jill

This mountain is largely made of iron ore. Not containing ore. Made of it. Stand near that slope and feel what dark rock does under this sun. Zouérat lies on its eastern side, F'Derick on its western, and the entire existence of this town follows from what the mountain is made of. SNIM, the state mining company, holds it now, and people were taking ore off it in the eleventh century, long before any industrial mine. Geology first. Towns afterwards. Always in that order.

Tazadit Airport
Prokennex Black Ace 105 Tennis Racquet: Named for the Tazadit deposit, of course, because everything here is named for the ore. It serves Zouérat, capital of the Tiris Zemmour region, about 62,380 people in 2023, with scheduled flights to Nouadhibou on the coast and a seasonal service to Casablanca with Mauritania Airlines. Together with the railway it is one of only two practical links to the rest of the country. Two corridors, across an ocean of desert, which is exactly how isolated populations survive anywhere, wings or timetables. Watch the sky here at dusk rather than the departures board. The light coming through that dust is the better spectacle.

The frame comes in at 300 g unstrung with an extra quarter inch of length — 27.25 in — and a 16×19 open string pattern, so there is room for spin and room for error, and the extra reach shows up on serve and on the stretch forehand.
Balance is around five points head-light with a swingweight near 326, which is why a frame this large still comes through the hitting zone without dragging.
