Here is a bet worth taking. Most polos are a straight pique knit and you know exactly what you are getting. This one is a drop needle construction, and that is the long shot on the card.
Drop needle means the knitting machine deliberately leaves needles out of action, which opens vertical channels through the fabric. You get texture you can see and air you can feel, running in fine lines down the body.
It is a riskier build — more can go wrong on the machine, the cloth has to be made properly or it looks cheap — and when it comes off, as it does here, you have a polo that breathes like a summer shirt and reads as something considerably more expensive than a gym top. The yarn is exceptionally soft cotton.
Across the chest sits the Damarindo lines design, the house's own signature marking, and the ST monogram is embroidered rather than printed. It comes in Maritime Blue and in Mojave Desert. Now the odds against: this is not a performance shirt. No wicking chassis, no synthetic.
It is cotton, and cotton drinks.
Play in it in mild weather and travel in it; back it in forty degrees and you will lose.
Bender is a town built on wagers. Tighina Fortress was raised in 1538 by the Ottoman architect Sinan above the river, which was somebody betting that a bend in the water was worth fortifying, and being right for four hundred years.
There is a monument to Baron Munchausen here, the baron astride the cannonball he claimed to have ridden over these very walls — a man whose entire method was doubling down. The Transfiguration Cathedral stands in the old town, and the embankment runs down to the bridge.
Cotton and a drop needle knit. A long shot on a hot day and a certainty on a mild one.
