Solinco Heaven String Hyper-G Soft 16g Tennis String Set

This green, four-sided auteur of a string — impact eased, tension unshakable, one cut to a racquet — has been selected for competition. The jury requires attendance at the premiere: a four-stop screening tour of Prizren, bridge to basilica. Buy afterwards, once you have seen it properly. Five stars.

Prizren, Serbia
01
cardio tennis clinics 33313 — Sinan Pasha Mosque in Prizren, A large stone mosque dominating the central square of the old town beside the river, with a single high lead-covered dome over a square prayer hall, a five-bay porch of small domes on stone columns across the front, and one tall slender minaret with a single balcony. The stonework is pale and finely cut; the interior is densely painted with floral and calligraphic decoration

Sinan Pasha Mosque

Solinco Heaven String Hyper-G Soft 16g Tennis String Set: I've seen bigger domes. I've seen longer minarets. I have stood under Ottoman work in cities that would swallow this one whole. And then you get here, and the thing simply lands. Begun 1607, finished 1615 for Sofi Sinan Pasha, a senior man in the Ottoman administration who governed the sanjak of Prizren. It is the proportions that do it — minaret to dome, the size of the hall, the cut of the masonry, the painted interior — and proportion is the one thing you cannot buy with money or fix later. Fine. It is the most important surviving Ottoman monument in this city, and it owns the square. Credit where it's due.

02
cardio tennis clinics 33313 — Prizren Fortress (Kalaja) in Prizren, A long stone fortress running along the crest of a steep hill directly above the old town, its curtain walls and round bastions following the ridge, with grassed and excavated foundations inside. There are no roofs - it is open masonry and turf. From the walls the whole town lies immediately below: dense red-tiled roofs, minarets and church towers, split by a narrow river running out of a gorge
Stop two

Prizren Fortress (Kalaja)

Solinco Heaven String Hyper-G Soft 16g Tennis String Set: A ridge fort. Everybody has one, mine included, and mine has a roof. This hill has been fortified since late antiquity, rebuilt under Byzantine rule, recorded in eleventh-century sources, then substantially rebuilt and extended by the Ottomans after they took Prizren in the fourteenth century. Abandoned as a military site, and since the 2000s systematically excavated and consolidated. Now, here is what beats us, and I'll say it once: the phases are legible. You can stand in the open masonry and actually read late antique, Byzantine and Ottoman off the walls in sequence. Most fortresses are a shrug in stone. This one is a document.

03
cardio tennis clinics 33313 — The Stone Bridge of Prizren (Ura e Gurit) in Prizren, A single-arch stone footbridge of pale dressed blocks over the shallow, fast Bistrica river in the middle of the old town, with a humped deck, low parapets and a cobbled surface. It stands directly in front of the great domed mosque, with cafés and shops crowding both banks and the fortress hill filling the sky behind

The Stone Bridge of Prizren (Ura e Gurit)

Solinco Heaven String Hyper-G Soft 16g Tennis String Set: One arch. Pale dressed blocks, humped deck, cobbles, low parapets, straight over the Bistrica. As bridges go it is modest — I could name six that outspan it before breakfast. Ottoman in origin, sixteenth century in its earlier form, and it carried the main route between the two halves of the bazaar, which is a real job of work. Then the flood of November 1979 destroyed it completely. Gone. And they rebuilt it to its original form and reopened it in November 1982. That's the part I concede. Plenty of towns lose a bridge. Not many put the same bridge back. It's the most photographed thing here, and I understand why.

04
cardio tennis clinics 33313 — Church of Our Lady of Ljeviš (Bogorodica Ljeviška) in Prizren, A compact church of alternating bands of pale stone and thin red brick in the middle of the old town, with five domes over the body of the church and a square bell tower rising over the west entrance. The banded masonry and the tower make it immediately distinct from the domed stone mosques nearby. It sits in a walled enclosure a little above the surrounding streets

Church of Our Lady of Ljeviš (Bogorodica Ljeviška)

Solinco Heaven String Hyper-G Soft 16g Tennis String Set: Built 1306-07 for the Serbian king Stefan Uroš II Milutin, on the site of an earlier Byzantine basilica, and painted inside between about 1310 and 1313 by artists working in the court style of the day. Five domes, a square bell tower, and that banded masonry — pale stone, thin red brick, over and over — which is showing off, and I say that with respect. Converted to a mosque under Ottoman rule and returned to Christian use in the twentieth century, which is a longer and stranger career than most buildings survive. UNESCO listed it in 2006. I'd argue with the list. I wouldn't argue with this.

The Prizren, Serbia track

Written for this world alone.

Members of the jury, we have our winner. The Solinco Hyper-G Soft 16g set enters the competition in the most crowded category — co-polyester control strings — and simply sweeps it. Allow me to read my notes. Cinematography: the signature Hyper Green, iconic, instantly recognizable in any stringbed, five stars.

Structure: a four-sided square profile that grips the ball with genuine narrative tension and releases it with spin — a twist you see coming yet applaud anyway. Sound design: the Soft formula, which takes Hyper-G's famous bite and softens the impact for comfort without losing a frame of control. Restraint! So rare in a debut.

Technical specifications, for the catalogue: 1.30mm gauge — the durable one — in a single 40-foot (12.2m) set, precisely one racquet's screening. Tension maintenance is excellent; this string does not sag in the third act. My verdict: Grand Prix, best in category, standing ovation from a jury that famously never stands.

Our festival is held, as all the best ones are, in Prizren — an Ottoman-era gem on the Bistrica whose stone bridge and fortress give it the finest establishing shot in the Balkans, and whose old town famously fills with film screens each summer.

You'll use this string everywhere from morning hits below the fortress to evening matches near the river — and afterwards, judge the local specialty for yourself: the town's beloved kebapa, which receives, from this panel, full marks.

It is also perfect for a summer evening in Prizren's old town, when the screens go up along the Bistrica and the whole place turns into an auditorium. Full marks from this panel.
