Tecnifibre TF 40 305 18M V3 Tennis Racquet

A dense 18×20 control frame: 98 in², 323 g strung, 22 mm straight beam, Dynacore XTC layup, three points head-light. Everyone tells you to buy the open pattern. I live here, and I am telling you the tight one is the better racquet if you actually swing at the ball.

Stop one

Founders' Square, its fountain and reliefs of the five who broke the ground

Tecnifibre TF 40 305 18M V3 Tennis Racquet: No, the old Petah Tikva vibe is not in the café you bookmarked; it is here at Founders' Square, by the fountain and the reliefs honoring the five who first broke the ground. Stand two streets over if you want to be wrong with confidence.

02

Stop two

the Great Synagogue of 1898, Hebrew letters on the clock face

Tecnifibre TF 40 305 18M V3 Tennis Racquet: Tourists stare at the shops; the real clue is the 1898 Great Synagogue, where even the clock face uses Hebrew letters. If your watch has regular numbers, congratulations, it is from out of town.

the Museum of Art in the Yarkon quarter

Tecnifibre TF 40 305 18M V3 Tennis Racquet: No, the art scene is not hiding in Tel Aviv's leftovers; Petah Tikva's Museum of Art is here in the Yarkon quarter, with Israeli and contemporary art on the agenda. The proper entrance is the one locals use, obviously.

Tecnifibre TF 40 305 18M V3 Tennis Racquet: Everyone photographs the traffic; locals point up at Santiago Calatrava's Y-shaped cable-stayed footbridge over Jabotinsky Avenue. It gets you across without negotiating with buses, which is the correct cultural practice.

The Petah Tikva, Israel track

Tecnifibre TF 40 305 18M V3 Tennis Racquet

Written for this world alone.

Everybody tells you to buy the open pattern. Everybody. I have been listening to that advice given badly on this court for eleven years and I am telling you it is wrong at least a third of the time, and this frame is exactly the case where it is wrong. The Tecnifibre TF40 305 with the 18-main bed is a control racquet. Not a spin racquet dressed up as one.

If you swing fast and your problem is that the ball keeps leaving the court, this is the answer, and the open-pattern version is not.

Head size 98 square inches, 632 square centimetres, standard 27-inch length. Strung weight 11.4 ounces, 323 grams. Balance 33.32 centimetres, only three points head-light, which is a more even distribution than most control frames and is why it feels planted rather than whippy.

Here is what you are holding.

Swingweight 330 — that is real, and it is the number that does the plowing. The beam is a flat 22 millimetres at tip, throat and shoulder. The layup is Dynacore XTC over graphite, Tecnifibre's braided core, which is what softens the response at that stiffness rating.

Stiffness 64, so it is firm without being harsh.

Pattern is 18 mains by 20 crosses, strung in two pieces, mains skipping 8T, 10T, 8H and 10H, with no shared holes. Tension range 49 to 55 pounds. String it low. I will not argue about this.

The city taught me to say things like that. Petah Tikva was founded by people who chose swampy ground nobody wanted and drained it, and the fountain on Founders' Square carries reliefs of the five who broke the first ground. This is a town built by people who ignored the consensus and were right. Buy the tight pattern.

Dense strings do not cost you spin. Loose technique does.
