In 1944 an air raid tore this thirteenth-century hall apart, and when Treviso rebuilt it, the join between what survived and what was replaced was deliberately left visible. Below the line, original brick. Above it, the rebuild. That is a documented repair rather than a restoration pretending nothing ever happened, and I will take one honest seam over a hundred seamless facades. And the name, before somebody demands a source for that as well: the council of three hundred met upstairs. Trecento. Three hundred. It is exactly as literal as it sounds.

Tecnifibre X-One Biphase 15L Tennis String Set: Now, I have heard the claim about this room in three separate guidebooks, which in my experience usually means it is wrong. Forty Dominican friars, painted in 1352 by Tomaso da Modena, each one at his own desk, reading, copying, sharpening a quill. And one of them has a pair of spectacles perched on his nose — and the claim is that this is among the very earliest depictions of eyeglasses anywhere in the world. So I checked. It is dated. It is the work of a known painter. It is on a wall that has not moved since. The evidence holds and I concede the point entirely. An invention only decades old, recorded by accident, because a painter thought it was simply what that particular friar looked like. I love being wrong about this sort of thing.

The city walls of Treviso

Answer: Venice rebuilt them in the early fifteen hundreds, after the war of the League of Cambrai had given her a serious fright, and Fra Giocondo is credited with the work. Now look at the profile — thick and low, earth-backed, not tall and proud, because these were built to absorb a cannonball rather than shatter under one. That is a design responding to a specific, dateable change in weaponry, which is precisely the kind of claim I can test. And the ditch is filled by the Sile, so the moat is a working river rather than a decorative one. Every single thing on the plaque here holds up. Frankly, disappointing. I had questions prepared.
Low tide, bare feet, and a rake you trust. It is not glamorous and I have never wanted it to be. You go out, you work the flat, and you come back with something worth eating. Everything else is marketing.
X-One Biphase is the string equivalent of a full bucket. It is a premium multifilament — thousands of fine fibres bonded with polyurethane — and the Biphase construction reduces friction between those fibres, which is why it keeps its plush feel instead of turning to mush after two hits. It is one of the reference comfort strings in tennis.
This is the single 40-foot (12 m) set in 15L, 1.34 mm, the thickest gauge: the version for a player who wants the softest possible bed but keeps snapping thinner strings. You get gut-like pocketing, generous depth, real feel on volleys, and very little shock into the arm.
String it at your normal tension, and it will do everywhere from a delicate drop volley to a full swing off the ground without ever jarring the elbow.
Treviso is a town that built its fish market on an island in the middle of a river, which is the most sensible thing I have ever heard. The Isola della Pescheria sits in the current because water carries away what the nose would rather not keep. Brutally practical, and pleasant besides. This string is also perfect for the damp Veneto autumn, when a stiffer bed goes cold and stubborn and this one simply does not.
