Fort Lauderdale cardio tennis drills — Volkl Vostra V8 285g Tennis Racquet on Castle Hill with Townsville spread out below
Stop one

Castle Hill, a granite monolith 286 metres up with the whole town laid out below

Volkl Vostra V8 285g Tennis Racquet: OKAY PEOPLE this is LITERALLY THE GREATEST VIEW I have EVER SEEN and I've seen the bottom of a LOT of glasses! Castle Hill is a 286-metre granite monolith — GRANITE, like my determination to find a cocktail bar up here — and you can see the ENTIRE city laid out like a buffet below us! Someone tell me there's a bar at the top because this party needs to KEEP GOING!

02
Fort Lauderdale cardio tennis drills — Volkl Vostra V8 285g Tennis Racquet at The Strand beach and rock pool in Townsville
Stop two

The Strand, a long beach and garden strip with its rock pool

Volkl Vostra V8 285g Tennis Racquet: OH MY ABSOLUTE WORD this beach strip is THE GREATEST THING I HAVE EVER WITNESSED and I need a frozen margarita IN MY HAND RIGHT NOW! The Strand has a famous rock pool so you can swim safely in stinger season — STINGERS, which is basically nature telling you the party got TOO WILD — and honestly this whole vibe says sunset cocktails to me, are we doing this or WHAT?

03
Fort Lauderdale cardio tennis drills — Volkl Vostra V8 285g Tennis Racquet among the gardens and trees of Queens Gardens in Townsville
Stop three

Queens Gardens, four hectares laid out in 1870

Volkl Vostra V8 285g Tennis Racquet: FOUR HECTARES of pure gorgeous garden laid out in EIGHTEEN SEVENTY and honestly I feel like the classiest person alive right now which is saying something because I am STILL wearing last night's wristband! Queens Gardens is Townsville's oldest park and it is STUNNING, but listen — gorgeous greenery plus a warm Queensland evening equals an OUTDOOR BAR SITUATION and I am formally proposing we ditch the tour and make tonight a THING!

04
Fort Lauderdale cardio tennis drills — Volkl Vostra V8 285g Tennis Racquet at the Museum of Tropical Queensland beside HMS Pandora artefacts in Townsville
Stop four

the Museum of Tropical Queensland and its relics raised from HMS Pandora

Volkl Vostra V8 285g Tennis Racquet: ACTUAL TREASURES raised from an ACTUAL SHIPWRECK this is THE MOST DRAMATIC THING EVER and I need a drink to process it! HMS Pandora sank in 1791 while transporting Bounty mutineers and they've pulled up real artefacts from the deep — THE DEEP, people — which is exactly the energy I bring to the dance floor at 2am! Someone find me a rum cocktail, it's THEMATICALLY APPROPRIATE!

Written for this world alone.

MATE. Look at this thing. The VOSTRA V8 285g is the lightest frame in the V8 family and it is built for one glorious purpose: swinging FAST. 285 g unstrung, 10.1 oz, a 645 square centimetre head — that is 100 square inches — on a 68.5 cm, 27 inch frame with a tapered 22-24-22 mm beam. And here is the good bit, the bit I want to buy a round for: the string pattern is 16×18. OPEN.

On a control frame. Which means bite, spin, the ball dropping in like it has somewhere to be.

The build is proper: REVA, more REDCELL material through the layup, the VTEX butt cap, Super Grommets and the V-Sensor Handle, all of which is Volkl's way of saying it will not beat your arm up when you play three days running. Balance is head light at 32.5 cm, so it whips through, and it comes unstrung, which means you get to choose.

And you WILL play three days running.

Volkl reckon this one leads the current generation of players' frames and I am not going to argue with a company on a night out.

Castle Hill. A single lump of pink granite standing 286 metres straight up out of the middle of a city, with the whole town spread out underneath it.

WHICH BRINGS US TO TOWNSVILLE, and I have to sit down for a second because this itinerary is outrageous.

You walk up that at dawn, before it gets hot, and then — THEN — you come down to The Strand, which is a long beach and garden strip with its own rock pool, and you get in the water. Best morning available anywhere on this planet.

After that, Queens Gardens, four hectares laid out in 1870, for lying down in. And then the Museum of Tropical Queensland, which has relics raised off HMS Pandora — the ship sent out to bring back the Bounty mutineers and which then, magnificently, sank on the way home. THE SHIP THAT WENT TO ARREST THE MUTINEERS SANK. I love this town. Same time tomorrow?

"Hill at dawn, rock pool by nine. There is no better order."
