Mug Teppe
Wilson NXT Power 16g Tennis String Set: Right, the claim: this is Cyropolis, founded by Cyrus the Great in the 6th century BC. My first question is always the same — says who? Answer: tradition. Not a signed deed. I'd want more. But then Alexander storms it in 329 BC during the Sogdian campaign, and that part is well attested, so something serious was standing here. The citadel was destroyed and rebuilt over and over, Arab conquests onward, and the hilltop sat as a bare tell above the town then called Ura-Tyube. Now, the gate with the twin towers — that is not ancient. Erected in 2002 for the 2,500th anniversary. Modern. And they say so, which I respect enormously.

Kok Gumbaz Mosque and Madrasa of Abdullatif Sultan
Wilson NXT Power 16g Tennis String Set: Kok Gumbaz, Blue Dome, and the dome is the argument — that melon-ribbed turquoise mass is Timurid or I'll eat the plaque. Attribution to Abdullatif Sultan, son of the astronomer-ruler Ulugh Beg, comes from tradition, so I'd log it as attributed rather than proven. Fine. What I will accept without complaint is the dating, 15th to 16th century, because the fabric agrees: portal, dome chamber, courtyard cells, the standard Timurid grammar, and generations of students in those cells. It taught in the city then called Ura-Tyube, it was restored in the modern era, and it teaches again. Evidence and use pointing the same direction. Lovely when that happens.

Sary Mazor Complex
Wilson NXT Power 16g Tennis String Set: Let's read the building instead of the label. Burnt brick mausoleum, interior a square domed room on a cruciform plan — and that form is genuinely rooted in medieval Central Asian funerary architecture, so the fabric backs the date without anyone having to swear to it. Good. A mosque and burial ground grew around it, serving the mahalla, the traditional neighbourhood, of the city long known as Ura-Tyube — a place famous for its craftsmen: knife-making, embroidery, woodcarving. And the proof of that is directly overhead. Carved wooden columns. Painted ceilings. Made here, by the people the town is known for. That is evidence I can actually point at.
Glaze is the whole argument. Anyone can throw a pot; the question is what you put on the outside and how it behaves under stress. Wilson NXT Power is the softest string in the NXT family, built with almost twice as many fibres as standard NXT and bound with Xycro microfibres that Wilson credits with around eighty per cent less vibration than traditional synthetic gut.
The fibre count buys a sweet spot roughly fifteen per cent larger and a feel closer to natural gut than anything else Wilson makes in nylon. 16 gauge, one 12 m / 40 ft set.
Istaravshan is a town that has been firing tiles for a very long time. Kok Gumbaz — Blue Dome — is the mosque and madrasa whose azure-tiled dome is the city's chief adornment, its foundation associated by tradition with Abdullatif Sultan, son of the Timurid astronomer-ruler Ulugh Beg. I could stand under that dome for a week.
Above the town is Mug Teppe, the fortress hill, identified by tradition with Cyropolis, founded by Cyrus the Great in the sixth century BC and stormed by Alexander in 329 BC. In the old quarters, the Hazrati Shoh complex joins a mosque and a venerated mausoleum beside a rising spring, its water held holy by pilgrims.
And the Sary Mazor complex centres on a burnt-brick mausoleum with a square domed room laid out on a cruciform plan — medieval Central Asian funerary architecture at its purest. Burnt brick. My people.
You will use this set everywhere from a hard court in Istaravshan to an indoor hall in Khujand up the road, and by the way, it is also perfect for an hour in the town's knife workshops, where the smiths forge and grind in front of you and nobody minds being watched.
