The stone church of Saint Catherine, built between 1722 and 1729, paid for by Franciszek Karol Kotuliński, owner of Czechowice, together with the priest Walenty Antoni Martiusz — two funders, both named, which is more than most eighteenth-century buildings will give you. Single-nave late Baroque. Inside it keeps a Baroque pulpit and altars, sculpture and paintings, among them a seventeenth-century picture of the farewell of Saints Peter and Paul: seventeenth century, older than the building that holds it, and that is precisely the sort of thing a careless catalogue flattens. It is the older of the two parish centres that fused when the town took its double name.

Czechowice-Dziedzice railway station

Czechowice-Dziedzice is a single town made from two separate settlements of medieval origin — Czechowice to the south, Dziedzice to the north — and the compound name records that they were once distinct villages, which is exactly the provenance most places quietly delete. Dziedzice grew into the industrial half because the railway ran through it, and the station became one of the significant junctions of Upper Silesia, with lines fanning out toward Katowice, Bielsko-Biała and the Czech border at Zebrzydowice. The two settlements were formally joined into one town. The hyphen is the citation.

Czechowice-Dziedzice sits on the flat sub-Beskid plain between the Vistula and the Iłownica, immediately north of the mountain front, so from the tower on the ridge the Beskids form a continuous line along the southern horizon. The valley and the tower were developed by the municipality as the outdoor counterpart to its built heritage trail, which links the palace, the church and the station.
