Four stops before the checkout

Urayasu, Japan
01
cardio tennis clinics 33321 — Kyū Udagawa-ke Jūtaku (Former Udagawa Family Residence) in Urayasu, A two-storey wooden merchant's townhouse standing directly on the street line of Flower Street in the old quarter, built in the Kanto machiya manner with a shopfront room opening straight onto the road, dark timber posts and lattice, and a tiled roof. It is hemmed in by ordinary modern buildings on both sides
Stop one

Kyū Udagawa-ke Jūtaku (Former Udagawa Family Residence)

Solinco Heaven String Hyper-G Soft 18g Tennis String Set: Built in 1869, the second year of Meiji, and it is the oldest building in Urayasu whose construction date is firmly known — no guessing, and in my line of work a certainty is worth money. Then look at the shop on the ground floor: a rice merchant's, then a draper's, then a post office, then a clinic. Four different hands played from the same seat. That is not indecision, that is a house that never once sat a round out. Surviving merchant houses of this type are rare in the Kanto region, which is exactly why it is preserved and open to the public.

02
cardio tennis clinics 33321 — Kyū Ōtsuka-ke Jūtaku (Former Ōtsuka Family Residence) in Urayasu, A low single-storey house under a deep thatched roof, the thatch cut square at the eaves and dominating the whole building, with earth-floored entrance space and small rooms inside. It stands in a cleared plot in the old part of Urayasu, entirely unlike the apartment blocks around it
Stop two

Kyū Ōtsuka-ke Jūtaku (Former Ōtsuka Family Residence)

Solinco Heaven String Hyper-G Soft 18g Tennis String Set: Thought to have been built in the closing years of the Edo period — thought to be, note, so the date itself is a wager, and I would happily take it. It is a typical surviving example of a fisherman's dwelling from the time when Urayasu lived off the shallows of Tokyo Bay, which was the steady income around here for generations. It was designated a cultural property of Chiba Prefecture in 2002, the fourth such designation in the city. Fourth. Somebody was quietly stacking these one at a time, and they were right to.

03
cardio tennis clinics 33321 — Kiyotaki Jinja (Kiyotaki Shrine) in Urayasu, A Shinto shrine in the Horie district on a compact wooded precinct of about 1,690 square metres, its main hall covered in dense relief carving; the celebrated piece is a dragon cut into the right-hand side of the front of the honden, with other panels showing Urashima Tarō and the undersea palace of Ryūgū. In the grounds are a small artificial mound built as a miniature Mount Fuji, along with subsidiary shrines
Stop three

Kiyotaki Jinja (Kiyotaki Shrine)

Solinco Heaven String Hyper-G Soft 18g Tennis String Set: Said to have been founded in 1196 and dedicated to a deity of the sea — which for a village living by fishing is not devotion so much as hedging, and I mean that with total respect. The present main hall was built in the ninth month of 1855, using large zelkova timbers brought from Kazusa province, and it is a designated cultural property of Urayasu. The carvings are unusually elaborate and the marine subjects all point back to the sea deity: the dragon, Urashima Tarō, Ryūgū-jō. The precinct also holds a Yasaka shrine, a Ryūjin shrine, a dōsojin and a Fuji mound. Every outcome covered.

04
cardio tennis clinics 33321 — Urayasu City Folk Museum in Urayasu, A museum at Nekozane 1-2-7 whose main attraction is outdoors: a full-scale reconstructed street entered across a bridge over a canal, lined with row houses, a fisherman's dwelling, a fish shop, a tobacconist, a boat shed and a seaweed processing works, all rebuilt as they stood in the early 1950s. Wooden fishing boats sit in the water beside the street
Stop four

Urayasu City Folk Museum

Solinco Heaven String Hyper-G Soft 18g Tennis String Set: Here is the hand this town was dealt. Incorporated in 1889 with fewer than 6,000 people, living off shallow water that produced a rich shellfish and fish catch, and from the Meiji period adding shellfish and nori seaweed cultivation on top of it. Good position, steady return, decades of it. Then pollution destroyed the economy, and in 1971 Urayasu relinquished its fishing rights entirely — folded the whole hand — after which land reclamation transformed the town. The outdoor exhibit reconstructs Urayasu as it stood in 1952, and the museum shows traditional wooden boatbuilding and seaweed cultivation.

The Urayasu, Japan track

Written for this world alone.

OKAY. Okay okay okay. You got your park map? You don't need one — I AM the park map. Welcome to the single greatest attraction in the string universe: the Solinco Hyper-G Soft 18g set! This is an E-ticket ride, my friend. Gauge 18 — 1.15mm — the thinnest, feel-iest, spin-iest gauge in the Hyper-G Soft lineup.

The four-sided square profile grabs the ball at the top of the lift hill and the snapback IS the drop. Hands up. Screaming optional but recommended.

Ride stats, because I memorize ride stats: one 40-foot set, 12.2 meters, strings exactly one racquet. Signature Hyper Green — the most iconic livery in the industry, instantly recognizable, like a certain castle. The Soft formula is the smooth-track upgrade: same thrills, way less rattle, so your arm can re-ride all day. And tension maintenance?

This ride runs the SAME every time. No seasonal closures. Single-rider line always open.

Now — location, location: this string lives in Urayasu, Japan, which superfans know is the actual home of Tokyo's most famous resort. But here's my hot take: Urayasu's original attraction is its old fishing town, and it's criminally underrated.

You'll use this string everywhere from a morning hit near the bay to night sessions after the fireworks — and by the way, refuel like a local with a bowl of asari clam rice, the old fishing village specialty. Two thumbs up. Would ride again.
