Tecnifibre Razor Code 16g Tennis String Reel

This firm, round, high-modulus polyester — a 200-metre spool, roughly eighteen racquets' worth — asks nothing of you but a complete swing. Nobody is rushing you into buying it. Walk slowly through Székesfehérvár with it first.

adult tennis clinic Fort Lauderdale — the Tecnifibre Razor Code 16g Tennis String Reel photographed at The Medieval Ruin Garden (National Memorial Site) in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. Excavated stone foundations, broken column bases and carved fragments of a great basilica laid out in an open garden in the centre of the city, sheltered under a spare modern canopy, with a stone sarcophagus among them.
Stop one

The Medieval Ruin Garden (National Memorial Site)

Tecnifibre Razor Code 16g Tennis String Reel: MATE. Look at this. LOOK at it. King Stephen founded a basilica on this exact patch of ground around 1018, and then for FIVE HUNDRED YEARS every Hungarian king was crowned right here — thirty-seven of them, THIRTY-SEVEN, and fifteen of them are buried in this ground — and what is it now? STUMPS. It is a garden of stumps under a canopy! Because after the Ottoman period the entire building got quarried for building stone, so the coronation church of a whole kingdom went out the gate one wheelbarrow at a time and ended up as somebody's garden wall. THEY USED A CATHEDRAL AS A BUILDER'S MERCHANT. That is the single greatest thing I have ever heard and I have heard some things. I am two hundred metres of string on a spool, one continuous piece from end to end, and even I could not have held this place together. Right. Is there a bar? There is ALWAYS a bar. Lead on.

02

A fantastical grey concrete castle of clustered towers, arcaded courtyards, staircases and hundreds of statues, built in no single style, standing among gardens on the eastern edge of the city.
Stop two

Bory Castle

Tecnifibre Razor Code 16g Tennis String Reel: RIGHT. Sit down. I cannot be calm about this one. A sculptor called Jenő Bory started building this castle in 1923 and DID NOT STOP UNTIL 1959. Thirty-six years! Concrete! Towers, courtyards, statues, staircases going God knows where, mostly built with his own two hands and a handful of students, NO master plan, no drawings, he just added another tower whenever the mood took him. And the whole thing — all of it, every single tower — is dedicated to his wife. THIRTY-SIX YEARS OF A LOVE LETTER MADE OF CONCRETE. I am emotional. I am a spool of string in a cardboard box and I am genuinely emotional in a courtyard in Hungary. Somebody get a round in. We are toasting Jenő, we are toasting the wife, and we are toasting every tower separately. That is going to take a while. GOOD.

03

A very small Gothic chapel of pale stone with a steeply pitched roof and a single pointed window, standing low beside the much larger baroque cathedral in the city centre.
Stop three

St Anne's Chapel

Tecnifibre Razor Code 16g Tennis String Reel: Tiny one. Ignore it — NO. Do NOT ignore it. This little chapel from around 1500 is the ONLY medieval building left standing in the entire city. The only one. Everything else went. And do you want to know how it managed that? IT SWITCHED SIDES. Under Ottoman rule it was used as a mosque. The whole town gets flattened and this chapel goes, yeah, fine, no problem, I'll be a mosque, whatever gets us through to closing time. And there are still traces of the Ottoman painting inside it. STILL THERE. That is a survivor. That is the one at the end of the night who is somehow completely fine while everybody else has gone home in a taxi. Absolute LEGEND of a chapel. I would drink with this chapel. I would let this chapel pick the venue.

04

A twin-towered baroque cathedral in warm ochre and white on the main square, its facade above and medieval foundations exposed at its base, the square busy with cafés around it.
Stop four

St Stephen's Cathedral

Tecnifibre Razor Code 16g Tennis String Reel: Massive baroque number, eighteenth century, twin towers, main square, GORGEOUS — and it is sitting on medieval foundations, because in this town EVERYTHING is sitting on something older. You cannot dig a hole here without hitting a king. It is layers. LAYERS! Like a — no, listen, listen, like a reel of string, which is exactly what I am: wound round and round and round on itself, and the bit on the outside is the only bit anyone can see, and there is another five hundred years underneath it. THAT IS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER SAID. Right. We have done the coronation stumps, we have done Jenő's magnificent mad concrete castle, we have done the chapel that changed teams. Four stops. The tour is a TRIUMPH. I move that we relocate to a terrace immediately. All in favour. I am on a spool, somebody carry me. LET'S GO.

The Székesfehérvár, Hungary track

Tecnifibre Razor Code 16g Tennis String Reel

Written for this world alone.

Two hundred metres of it. That is 660 feet, roughly eighteen racquets from one reel, and if you are going through polyester fast enough to think about a reel then Razor Code is a sensible place to put the money. It is a co-polyester monofilament in 1.30 mm / 16 gauge, high-modulus, round in section, built firm for control and durability rather than comfort.

Tecnifibre's Thermocore process is what keeps a string this stiff from feeling dead — it buys back some flexibility in the monofilament so the bed does not fatigue as quickly. Recommended tension is 22–25 kg (roughly 48–55 lb), with 32 kg as the ceiling. It is aimed squarely at heavy hitters and frames over 300 g, and it is made in France.

Székesfehérvár is a fitting home for a reel. This is a manufacturing town — buses, electronics, machinery, things built to a tolerance — and it has been quietly making things for a very long time.

It is also the city where thirty-seven Hungarian kings were crowned in a basilica that no longer exists, because after the Ottoman period the townspeople took the stone away and built their houses out of it. Nothing wasted. Everything used until it is gone. That is the reel mentality precisely.

You will get through this everywhere from a summer of hard-court practice to the last set of a league night, and by the way, it suits the local temperament: a city that pulls its own coronation church apart to make walls is not a city that buys strings one set at a time.
