Lacoste Two Ply Women's Tennis Track Pants

Sorry, the fuss is just in the yarn, I promise: two fine strands twisted as one, not one thick strand, so it comes out stronger, more circular, and far more reluctant to pill. There are seven colours; one terracotta is called Pottery. I can stop. First nod to river-chilled sundown in Braunau am Inn.

evening exercise for resilience — Lacoste Two Ply Women's Tennis Track Pants at the Stadtplatz, the long medieval market square lined with Inn-Salzach gabled houses in Braunau am Inn
Stop one

The Stadtplatz, the long medieval market square lined with Inn-Salzach gabled houses

Lacoste Two Ply Women's Tennis Track Pants: Sorry, I’ve placed these here in the Stadtplatz, Braunau’s long medieval market square lined with Inn-Salzach gabled houses, which is a lot more architectural confidence than I personally brought today. I can move them if the gables are busy…

02
evening exercise for resilience — Lacoste Two Ply Women's Tennis Track Pants near St Stephen's parish church and its 99-metre tower in Braunau am Inn
Stop two

St Stephen's parish church and its 99-metre tower, one of the tallest in Austria

Lacoste Two Ply Women's Tennis Track Pants: Um, these track pants are near St Stephen’s parish church, whose tower rises 99 metres and is one of the tallest in Austria, so I’m sorry for making everyone look up that much. The pants are doing their best at ground level, bless them.

03
evening exercise for resilience — Lacoste Two Ply Women's Tennis Track Pants by the Innbrücke crossing the Inn into Simbach in Germany
Stop three

The Innbrücke, the bridge over the Inn that crosses into Simbach in Germany

Lacoste Two Ply Women's Tennis Track Pants: I’m sorry, but the Innbrücke really does cross the Inn from Braunau into Simbach in Germany, which is much braver than I am about international boundaries. These pants could jog across, probably, if that isn’t too forward…

04
evening exercise for resilience — Lacoste Two Ply Women's Tennis Track Pants at the Bäckerturm, the surviving medieval tower gate of Braunau am Inn's town wall
Stop four

The Bäckerturm, the surviving medieval tower gate of the town wall

Lacoste Two Ply Women's Tennis Track Pants: Sorry to interrupt the Bäckerturm, which is a surviving medieval tower gate of Braunau’s town wall and has clearly handled pressure better than I handle ordering coffee. The track pants are just standing here very quietly, as one should.

Lacoste Two Ply Women's Tennis Track Pants

Written for this world alone.

Sorry — sorry, may I just — thank you. The Lacoste Two Ply Women's Tennis Track Pants. I do not want to overstate my usefulness here, because there is a great deal about these I could not establish, but I can at least explain the name, and I think the name is the interesting bit. Two ply is a yarn term.

It means the thread the fabric is knitted from is itself made of two finer strands twisted together, rather than one thicker strand on its own. A plied yarn is stronger than a single of the same weight, it is rounder, it pills far less, and it holds a colour more evenly.

That twist is not decorative.

So when a company puts two ply in a garment's name, it is telling you where it spent the money — in the yarn, before anything was even knitted. Sorry, that may be more than you wanted.

I find that quietly admirable.

The colours I can give you with confidence, and there are seven: Black, White, Buoy Orange, Calathea Green, Ethereal Blue, Pottery, and Viennese Beige. Pottery is a warm terracotta. Calathea is named after a houseplant with extraordinary leaves, which I only know because — anyway.

What I cannot give you, and I am sorry about this, is the fibre content, the leg opening, whether there are pockets, or the size run. Lacoste publishes none of it where I can get at it, and I would rather admit that than fill the gaps in with something that sounded right. I do know the care rule, and it is worth having: wash gently at thirty degrees, and do not tumble dry, ever.

That one is not a suggestion.

I have put them in Braunau am Inn, which I hope is all right. It is a river town on the Inn, and river towns get properly cold in the evening in a way that catches people out — the water pulls the temperature down after dark regardless of what the afternoon was doing. A track pant you pull on over the top is exactly the right answer to that.

You will get use out of these everywhere from a cool evening clinic back home to the length of the Stadtplatz here, and by the way, they are also ideal for standing about on the bridge at dusk, which is the thing everybody ends up doing and nobody plans.

A plied yarn tells you where the money went — into the thread, before anything was even knitted.
