Sergio Tacchini Nuvola Velour Men's Track Pants

Velour first: cut pile, meaning loops sheared so your fingers meet yarn tips, not loop tops. Sergio Tacchini ties these Nuvola track pants to Air Travel and the 60th-anniversary run; cloud embroidery sits low on the port-side leg. Warm, not for July alibis. Viborg.

Stop one

Viborg Cathedral, begun in 1130 and frescoed by Joakim Skovgaard

Sergio Tacchini Nuvola Velour Men's Track Pants: Okay, the plaque says construction began in 1130 — I want a primary source for that, obviously — but then I actually went inside and stared at Joakim Skovgaard's frescoes covering essentially every surface, completed between 1901 and 1906, and the archival documentation is meticulous. I concede. I concede completely. This cathedral earned its plaque.

Stop two

the Skovgaard Museum next door to it

Sergio Tacchini Nuvola Velour Men's Track Pants: The museum is literally next door to the cathedral, which I assumed was just convenient myth-making for tourists — but no, it is genuinely housed in the old city hall building right there on Domkirke Plads, dedicated specifically to Joakim Skovgaard and his family of artists. I interrogated the front desk. They had receipts. Delightful.

Stop three

the Black Friars' Church, a Dominican survival of the 13th century

Sergio Tacchini Nuvola Velour Men's Track Pants: A Dominican friary surviving from the 13th century — sure, I'll believe it when I see the evidence, and the evidence is a Gothic brick vaulted ceiling that refuses to lie. The Dominicans arrived in Denmark around 1222, which the scholarly literature corroborates, and this church is one of the most intact remnants of their presence in the country. I did not expect to be this impressed. Here we are.

Stop four

Sonderso, the lake below the cathedral ridge

Sergio Tacchini Nuvola Velour Men's Track Pants: Someone told me the lake is called Søndersø because it is the southern lake, sønder meaning south in Danish — I absolutely demanded a linguistic source for that, got one immediately from a very patient local, and now I am standing here watching waterfowl and feeling appropriately humbled. The two lakes flanking the ridge are literally named North Lake and South Lake. Sometimes the answer is just sitting right there on the label.

Written for this world alone.

I want a source for the cloud. That is my first question, and I am pleased to say the garment answers it, which is more than most garments manage.

Sergio Tacchini put these out as part of an Air Travel capsule and as a 60th anniversary edition, and the shapes embroidered low on the left leg are clouds — but the house's own line is that they nod to the tennis court net, and I raised an eyebrow at that until I looked properly at the way a net's white band scallops when it is slack. Fine.

Nuvola is Italian for cloud.

Conceded, and gracefully. The fabric is the house's signature velour, which is a cut-pile knit: loops are woven and then sheared, so what you touch is the cut ends of the fibre rather than a flat surface, and that is the entire reason velour feels the way it does.

It is plush and it is warm, and warm is not a neutral quality — do not buy these expecting a hot-weather trouser, because the same structure that makes them feel that good also holds heat. They come in Key Largo and Agave Green, with a matching Nuvola Velour jacket.

The ST logo is embroidered rather than printed.

Viborg is a town that rewards checking things. The cathedral was begun in 1130, and I would normally want documentation for a date like that, but the building itself is the documentation.

Inside, it is frescoed by Joakim Skovgaard, and the Skovgaard Museum is next door, which is a convenient arrangement I initially found suspicious and which turns out to be exactly as sensible as it sounds. There is a Dominican church that survived the thirteenth century intact.

And Sonderso lies below the cathedral ridge, which is where I would go to think about whether I was wrong about the net.

Cut pile, not flat weave. You are touching the ends of the fibre. That is checkable, and I checked.
