Babolat Jet Mach I All Court Women's Tennis Shoes

The original Jet mould — all-court geometry, a mesh shell they allegedly designed to keep the foot horizontal, no cosmetic fuss. Demands an in-person verdict, so four addresses in Pisa await, and the third? They'll only confirm half the story.

the Leaning Tower, eight tiers of marble arcades pulled four metres off true

Babolat Jet Mach I All Court Women's Tennis Shoes: They say the Leaning Tower has eight tiers of marble arcades and sits about four metres off true—allegedly gravity did it, but I’m watching the marble, wink wink.

the Duomo beside it, Giovanni Pisano's carved pulpit standing in the nave

Babolat Jet Mach I All Court Women's Tennis Shoes: Inside the Duomo, Giovanni Pisano’s carved pulpit stands in the nave, which is exactly where you’d hide the good evidence if the official tour brochure got too comfortable, allegedly.

the round Baptistery, where a custodian sings two notes to prove the eleven-second echo

Babolat Jet Mach I All Court Women's Tennis Shoes: The round Baptistery has an echo that can last around eleven seconds, and yes, the custodian proves it with two notes—very convenient for anyone needing an alibi to reverberate, wink.

Babolat Jet Mach I All Court Women's Tennis Shoes: The Camposanto Monumentale is a cloistered graveyard said to hold soil brought back from Golgotha, allegedly making the ground more sacred than a locked filing cabinet full of medieval receipts.

The Pisa, Italy track

Babolat Jet Mach I All Court Women's Tennis Shoes

Written for this world alone.

You want to know where the whole Jet Mach thing started, and nobody at the counter will just tell you, so I will. This is the first one. The Jet Mach in the women's all-court fit is the light, low, close-to-the-floor design every later Jet Mach was drawn from — a speed shoe, an all-court outsole, and a woven upper doing the support work instead of a rack of plastic overlays.

Allegedly the newer ones are better. They are certainly newer.

Here is what I will vouch for, and I am not going to quote you numbers nobody has published. It is an all-court shoe with a Michelin rubber outsole, which is the arrangement Babolat has run across this line for years and the reason a light shoe still lasts a season.

The upper is the Matryx-family woven construction — aramid and polyamide fibres — which is why it holds a foot laterally without weighing anything. The fit is low and snug rather than roomy; it is not the wide-fit model and it is not pretending to be.

Colourways are Silver/Horizon Blue and Purple/Blue Pastel.

The house was founded in Lyon in 1875, back when the official story about tennis was that it was a garden pastime. Look how that turned out.

Now. Pisa. The tower leans about four metres off true because the subsoil under one side is soft, and it has been quietly monitored and corrected for decades, which they do mention, just not loudly.

Everybody arrives, photographs the tower, leaves.

The Duomo beside it holds Giovanni Pisano's carved pulpit, and the round Baptistery is where a custodian sings two notes and lets the eleven-second echo do the rest — that one is real, I have stood in it.

You will get use out of these everywhere from the marble apron of the Campo dei Miracoli to a hard court back home in October, and by the way, they are also perfect for an evening of cecina and a glass by the Arno, which is where the actual city is, not up at the tower with everybody else, wink.

"Pisa built four buildings on soft ground and only one of them tells you about it."
