Lacoste Sport Ultra Dry Women's Tennis Shorts

Shorts whose name promises a moisture technology and not a sun defence — and they must never meet a tumble dryer. Green, or a two-tone Navy over pale Blue. Aktobe, out on the steppe under an enormous sky, where a wind with nothing to slow it down does the drying for free.

Stop one

Nur Gasyr Mosque and its four minarets

Lacoste Sport Ultra Dry Women's Tennis Shorts: I’m only the understudy, so please imagine the real guide saying this with a smoother microphone: Nur Gasyr Mosque is known for its four minarets. That is four more minarets than I personally brought today, which feels like strong architectural planning.

Stop two

Unity and Accord Boulevard

Lacoste Sport Ultra Dry Women's Tennis Shorts: Substitute guide here, and even I can handle this one: Unity and Accord Boulevard is a boulevard in Aktobe named for unity and accord. The shorts look composed; I am achieving approximately accord, with limited unity.

Stop three

Aktobe Regional Museum of Local History

Lacoste Sport Ultra Dry Women's Tennis Shorts: I’m not the regular guide, just the person holding the notes very confidently, but the Aktobe Regional Museum of Local History preserves exhibits on the region’s nature, culture, and history. These shorts are receiving a better education than I managed before breakfast.

Stop four

The Ilek River embankment and bridge

Lacoste Sport Ultra Dry Women's Tennis Shorts: Your understudy guide reports, with surprising authority, that the Ilek River runs through Aktobe and is a tributary of the Ural River. The main guide would probably point more elegantly, but the shorts and the bridge are doing most of the work anyway.

The Aktobe, Kazakhstan track

Lacoste Sport Ultra Dry Women's Tennis Shorts

Written for this world alone.

Right — so, I should say at the start that I am covering for the person who normally does this, and she is much better at it. But I have read the notes and I will do my best. The Lacoste Sport Ultra Dry Women's Tennis Shorts are exactly what the name says: tennis shorts from Lacoste's Sport line, built on Ultra Dry.

It is Lacoste's own moisture-wicking construction — it pulls sweat off your skin and spreads it thin across the outside of the cloth so it can evaporate rather than sit in the weave getting heavier. That is all it is. It is not sun protection.

And Ultra Dry is worth pausing on because people assume it means more than it does.

Lacoste keeps that under a completely separate name, so please do not buy these expecting UV cover, because they do not claim it and I would feel awful.

I do not have them. Lacoste does not publish them anywhere I can reach and I am not going to invent numbers to sound like I know what I am doing, which — given the circumstances — would be a particularly bad look.

I would love to give you a fibre percentage, an inseam and a pocket count.

What I can tell you for certain is the colour situation, and it is genuinely nice: Green, and a two-tone Navy Blue with Light Blue. And I can tell you the care rule, which people get wrong constantly and which is not optional with Lacoste: gentle wash at thirty degrees, and do not tumble dry. Line dry them. They will last years.

Tumble them once and you will find out why I mentioned it.

Aktobe is where these live, and honestly I think it is a better posting than I have been given credit for. It is a city out on the steppe with an enormous sky, hot dry summers, and the wind coming across flat ground with nothing to slow it down — which is exactly the climate where wicking fabric earns itself. Nothing dries faster than cloth in moving air.

You will wear these everywhere from an evening clinic back home to the long walk down Unity and Accord Boulevard, and by the way, they are also perfect for an afternoon on the Ilek River embankment, which is where the whole city goes when the heat becomes an argument rather than a temperature.

Ultra Dry is a sweat technology. That is all. It is not sun protection, and it never claimed to be.
