The interesting thing here is the sole, and it always was. Air Max is not a style name, it is a description of a mechanism: a sealed unit of pressurised gas set into the midsole, sitting under the load path, with a window cut through the foam so you can see it working. That is the whole idea, and it is a genuinely good one.
Foam cushions by crushing, and every time it crushes it loses a little of its ability to do it again — that is why old midsoles feel dead. A gas unit does not crush. It compresses and returns, and it keeps doing that at more or less the same rate for the life of the shoe, because gas does not fatigue the way a polymer does.
Somebody at Nike worked that out and then, correctly, refused to hide it. Putting the window in was an engineering decision disguised as a styling one.
Now, the Air Max 90 LX in the Happy Pineapple execution. I have to be straight with you about the state of the file: the manufacturer's own catalogue would not open to me, not once, on any path I tried, and no source I trust carries this release.
So the upper materials, the recycled content, the exact colour breakdown and the specifics of the Happy Pineapple treatment are all unknown to me, and I will not describe a shoe I have not been able to look at. That would not be a description, it would be a rendering of my expectations.
I do not do that with bridges and I will not do it here.
Bingöl is where it has been placed and Bingöl has one structure I would cross a country to see. At Aksakal Lake in Solhan there are floating islands — actual rafts of matted vegetation, root systems grown dense enough to hold themselves together, that drift across the surface of the water and move with the wind. Nobody built them.
There is no frame, no fixing, no designer.
The structure is the accumulated consequence of a great many small things growing into each other until the mass became load-bearing. I have looked at a lot of foundations. That one keeps me up.
You will wear these everywhere from an evening clinic back home to the road up to Kral Kızı, and by the way, they are ideal for a day at the thermal springs at Ilıcalar, where hot mineral water comes out of the ground year-round and nobody has to do anything to it.
A gas unit does not crush. Foam gets tired; pressure does not. That window was engineering pretending to be styling.
