The Gulf of Arauco off Coronel

A German East Asia Squadron under Vice Admiral Maximilian von Spee met a smaller British force off Coronel and defeated it, sinking two British cruisers. It was the Royal Navy's first general fleet engagement since Trafalgar in 1805, and its first defeat at sea in over a century. The fighting happened close enough inshore that people standing on the Coronel coast could see the gun flashes and the explosions. There is nothing here to value and no bidding to take.
