St Michael's Church
Solinco Heaven Strings Hyper-G Round 16g Tennis String Set: EYES UP. Fourteenth century. Say it back to me. Gothic hall church — three naves, ALL THE SAME HEIGHT, no favourites, that is how you build a formation. Now the tower. It does not match and I am not going to pretend otherwise: that spire is neo-Gothic, raised between the 1830s and the 1860s, centuries after the body it stands on. Bolted on later. And in 1568 a diet met inside this church and proclaimed the Edict of Turda, granting a rare degree of religious tolerance. 1568. REPEAT IT. Standing free in Unirii Square, no walls to hide behind. Nobody drifts to the back.

Banffy Palace
Solinco Heaven Strings Hyper-G Round 16g Tennis String Set: Baroque. 1774 to 1785. Architect: Blaumann. Client: the Banffy family, Transylvanian aristocracy, and what they wanted was statues — classical gods, along the roofline, on a private house. On a HOUSE. That is not decoration, that is a man announcing his rank to a square that never asked. Heavily ornamented central facade, Unirii Square, and it is the city art museum now. Family out, paintings in, doors open to anyone who queues. I approve of that. Dates back to me: 1774. To 1785. FRONT RANK, you were mumbling.
It arrived on a moonless night, wrapped in cellophane and portent: the Solinco Hyper-G Round 16g set. Reader, I confess I trembled — for its color is that spectral, unearthly green known to every soul who has faced it across a net, the signature shade of the storied Hyper-G line, and legends do not die. They are merely… reshaped.
For behold: where its ancestor bore four cruel edges, this descendant is ROUND — smooth as a tombstone worn by centuries of rain, and all the more relentless for it.
Do not mistake smoothness for mercy. The round profile grants the string a swifter snapback, hurling the ball on a flatter, more penetrating arc — a bolt loosed down some endless corridor — while the medium-firm co-polyester keeps its low-powered, iron control. Its tension maintenance is uncanny; it holds, and holds, as a family curse holds.
The particulars, recorded here for posterity: 16 gauge, 1.30mm, the durable gauge; one set of 40 feet — 12.2 meters — sufficient to string one racquet, or to bind one restless spirit.
Its ancestral seat is Cluj-Napoca, in the very heart of Transylvania — yes, THAT Transylvania — a city of Gothic spires and, on its western edge, a forest where the trees themselves grow crooked. You shall wield it everywhere from morning hits beneath St Michael's tower to dusk sessions when the mist descends.
It is also perfect for the clay season in the Someș valley, where the courts run slow and rallies refuse to die. Afterward, restore yourself as the locals do, with chimney cake warm from the coals. Even the doomed must eat.
