Let me put this fairly, because there are two reasonable views. The Volkl V8 Pro is a control racquet. It carries the tighter 18×20 string pattern on a 100 square inch head, in a heavier build with a head light balance, and the beam is Volkl's tapered 22-24-22 mm profile on a standard 27 inch frame. Those choices point one direction: precision and string durability over easy free power.
A dense pattern gives less launch and less automatic spin than an open one; the player has to bring the racquet head speed. In return, the string bed is more predictable, the strings last considerably longer, and the ball goes where it was sent rather than where the frame felt like sending it.
Which means, in the interest of balance, that this frame asks something of you.
Neither approach is superior. They suit different players, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.
The V8 Pro carries REVA, the V-Sensor handle, Super Grommets and the VTEX butt cap, and the feel across the face is unusually uniform for a control frame — the off-centre ball still tells you what it did. Volkl builds these so players can train longer without paying for it afterwards, and in a heavier control stick that is not a small consideration.
What is not in dispute is the comfort work.
Randers, meanwhile, is a town that declines to pick a lane, and I admire it for that. Randers Regnskov is three geodesic domes containing a made rainforest with some 175 species living in it — an entirely artificial habitat, which some people find wonderful and others find absurd, and both camps have a case. St Martin's Church has stood here since the fifteenth century.
Niels Ebbesen's Gaard of 1643 is half-timbered and is now a restaurant, which is either a betrayal of heritage or the reason it still has a roof, depending who you ask.
And then, on the edge of town, Memphis Mansion: a replica of Graceland, opened in 2011, in Denmark. There are many perspectives on this. I have heard all of them. I would simply say that it is there, that people go, and that a town confident enough to build it is a town worth an afternoon.
