No, I am not reading that out. Forgive me. This is the one. Inside a Catholic Gothic chapel is a complete cycle of Byzantine-Ruthenian frescoes, finished in 1418 for King Wladyslaw Jagiello: eastern painters, western walls, and a king who saw no reason on earth to choose between two Christian worlds and simply had both of them put in the same small room. Complete, please note. Not fragments. Complete. I have looked at that vault more times than is dignified in a tennis shoe and I intend to look at it again in roughly ninety seconds. Go in slowly.

Krakow Gate
Wilson Intrigue Light Women's Tennis Shoes: Resuming the script, and thank you for your patience. The Krakow Gate: fourteenth century, raised when Lublin fortified itself in earnest after raids from the east, and the principal entrance to the Old Town. The brick in front of you is medieval; the white upper storey and the green cupola are eighteenth-century additions, which is why the tower appears to be wearing a hat borrowed from another century entirely. Walk through in single file, please, and mind the cobbles, they are original and they are unforgiving. That was the paragraph exactly as written and I feel considerably calmer for it.

Crown Tribunal, Old Town Market Square
Wilson Intrigue Light Women's Tennis Shoes: The Crown Tribunal, standing alone in the middle of the Old Town Market Square, pale, neoclassical, fronted with columns. From 1578 this was the seat of the highest court for the whole of Lesser Poland; nobles travelled across the realm to be judged inside it and a great many fortunes ended in that room. There is also a legend, which I am obliged to tell you and shall tell you correctly: devils are said to have held a trial here and delivered a fairer verdict than the judges did, leaving a scorched handprint on the table by way of proof. Legend, not record. Though I will observe that a city does not invent that particular story about just anybody.

Litewski Square and the Union of Lublin Monument
Wilson Intrigue Light Women's Tennis Shoes: Litewski Square, and the tall stone obelisk marks the Union of Lublin. In 1569, in this city, Poland and Lithuania stopped being two states joined by a marriage and became one commonwealth: one parliament, one elected monarch. It was negotiated. It was argued over for months. It was signed — and I should like that word underlined, because it was not a conquest — and it produced one of the largest states in Europe. That is the tour as printed, and we are exactly on time. Off-book, briefly: the chapel is a four-minute walk back and does not close for another hour. I merely mention it. Go on.
I paint walls for a living, so let me tell you what I notice first about the Wilson Intrigue Light: it is the lightest and most affordable shoe in Wilson's Intrigue family, the line Wilson built on a women's-specific last instead of shrinking a men's shoe and calling it done.
Simpler construction, lighter materials, a narrower toe box that holds the foot close, and light arch support — which is worth knowing if your arches are high. It is a shoe for the player who wants to move all day and not think about her feet.
And all day is what Lublin asks of you. Start where I always start, in the Holy Trinity Chapel at Lublin Castle, Gothic on the outside and covered inside with Byzantine-Ruthenian frescoes finished in 1418 — an entire eastern sky painted onto a western vault, which is the single best argument for looking up that I know.
Then out through the Kraków Gate, the fourteenth-century brick gate that is Lublin's front door and its emblem.
From there the Old Town Market Square and the Crown Tribunal, where Poland's highest court for the Crown lands sat for two centuries, and finally down to Litewski Square and the Union of Lublin Monument, marking the 1569 act that bound Poland and Lithuania into one commonwealth.
That is cobbles, ramps and about four kilometres of walking, which is precisely the terrain a light, close-fitting shoe was made for. You will wear them everywhere from an indoor hall in February to those cobbles in August, and they are also perfect for the slow shuffle round the Old Town Market Square at dusk, when the whole of Lublin is out and nobody is in a hurry.
