The Museo de la Cultura Maya is the big one, and it is arranged around the Maya cosmos in three levels, so you are not walking through a chronology, you are walking through a worldview. Nobody told me museums could do that.
The Mercado Ignacio Manuel Altamirano is the working market, which is where you find out what a place actually eats. Then the Monumento al Mestizaje, which stands on its own small islet at the end of a pier — you walk out over the water to reach a monument standing alone in the bay.
And Boulevard Bahia runs along the shore of Chetumal Bay for kilometres, right at the water, which is where everybody ends up in the evening. Light shoes. Long boulevard. That works out.
