Wilson Rush Pro Ace Women's Tennis Shoes

For feet that have never forgiven a narrow last: roomy, unhurried, thickly padded. Take a slow afternoon in Xining before deciding, ideally by way of a 299-room house faced entirely in white jade.

Xining, China
01
cardio tennis clinics in Fort Lauderdale — Dongguan Grand Mosque (东关清真大寺) in Xining, A large mosque in the dense eastern quarter of the city centre, combining a Chinese-style green-tiled hall with sweeping upturned eaves and two tall white minarets with green domes flanking a broad walled forecourt. The courtyard is unusually large and paved, and crowds fill it at prayer times; multi-storey city blocks press up against the perimeter wall

Dongguan Grand Mosque (东关清真大寺)

Wilson Rush Pro Ace Women's Tennis Shoes: Six hundred years of everybody's business, this place. Founded in 1380 under the Ming, ruined in 1781 during the Qianlong reign of the Qing, damaged further afterwards, and the complete complex as it stands only took shape by 1914 — a building with that many rebuilds has been at the centre of every argument this city has ever had. And here is the part people lower their voices for: the generals Ma Qi and Ma Bufang controlled the mosque during their terms as military governors of Qinghai, Ma Bufang and his clan holding it through the 1930s. Its architecture deliberately fuses Chinese timber-frame building with Islamic forms. Two traditions in one roofline, and nobody has ever argued about that part.

02
cardio tennis clinics in Fort Lauderdale — Beishan Temple / Tulou Guan (北禅寺 / 土楼观) in Xining, Timber shrine halls and galleries pinned to the face of a sheer red sandstone cliff on the mountainside north of the river, linked by covered walkways and trestle stairs that run along the rock. Cave openings pock the cliff face between the buildings; the whole thing reads as architecture glued to a red wall rather than standing on ground

Beishan Temple / Tulou Guan (北禅寺 / 土楼观)

Wilson Rush Pro Ace Women's Tennis Shoes: The oldest religious building in Qinghai — and it changed hands, which is the bit nobody tells you. Its origins go back to the Northern Wei, 386 to 534, and it began as a Buddhist site before being gradually taken over by Daoism as that religion became dominant locally. Gradually. Over centuries. The slowest quiet takeover in the province. It stands on the slopes of Beishan on the north side of the Huangshui valley, built along a natural fault in the red sandstone, with some ninety-nine caves in the cliff face known as the Nine Grottoes and Eighteen Caves, linked by trestle paths and winding corridors, and frescoes, sculpture and coffered ceiling designs of the Wei and Jin periods surviving inside them.

03
cardio tennis clinics in Fort Lauderdale — Ma Bufang Mansion (马步芳公馆) in Xining, A walled compound of single-storey Chinese courtyard buildings in the eastern part of the city, whose walls and screens are faced with slabs of pale, milky-white stone rather than the usual brick or plaster. Seven linked courtyards open one into the next through moon gates and timber screens; the white stone facing is what makes it instantly unlike any other courtyard house

Ma Bufang Mansion (马步芳公馆)

Wilson Rush Pro Ace Women's Tennis Shoes: Thirty million Dayang. That is the reported cost and I would like everyone to sit with the number for a moment. Construction began in 1942 and finished the following year: 299 rooms, seven interconnected courtyards, and the whole thing faced in locally quarried white jade, which is why the town calls it the Jade Mansion. Jade. On the walls. It is the only known residence in China with jade facing on that scale, and there is no version of that decision which is not a statement. It was the home of the Muslim warlord and Nationalist general Ma Bufang and his family, and the de facto seat of his administration of Qinghai from 1943 until he left in 1949. Part of it became the Qinghai Provincial Folk Museum in 2006.

04
cardio tennis clinics in Fort Lauderdale — The Huangshui River through Xining in Xining, A broad, shallow, silt-coloured river running east–west through the middle of the city between hard engineered embankments, crossed by a succession of road bridges, with paved riverside walkways and lines of planted trees on both banks and bare brown loess hills closing the view at either end of the valley

The Huangshui River through Xining

Wilson Rush Pro Ace Women's Tennis Shoes: Every city has one thing that explains it, and here it is the river. The Huangshui is a tributary of the Yellow River, and its valley is the corridor along which Xining was founded and grew, the city sitting on the valley floor at roughly 2,200 metres, hemmed in north and south by steep loess and sandstone slopes. Hemmed in — nobody in this town has ever had much room to keep a secret. The route along the Huangshui carried the branch of the Silk Road running toward the Tibetan plateau and the Hexi Corridor, and it remains the axis the whole city is laid out on, with Beishan and its cliff temple rising directly above the north bank. Watching. Always watching.

The Xining, China track

Wilson Rush Pro Ace Women's Tennis Shoes

Written for this world alone.

I spend my days working a stone that punishes impatience, so I notice when something is properly finished.

The Rush Pro Ace is the roomiest, most accommodating shoe in Wilson's Rush Pro family: a wider toe box than its siblings, a breathable mesh upper that ventilates and still supports, and the 4D Support Chassis running symmetrically heel to toe to limit supination when you push off hard laterally. R-DST+ EVA cushions the heel, where the load actually lands.

It is a shoe for players who want stability without being clamped, and for feet that have never got on with a narrow last.

Xining is a city of layers and I will show you the best ones. The Ma Bufang Mansion was begun in 1942 and finished the following year at a reported thirty million Dayang: 299 rooms, seven interconnected courtyards, and the entire building faced in locally quarried white jade — the Jade Mansion. It is real.

I have stood at that wall with a loupe.

The Dongguan Grand Mosque was founded in 1380 under the Ming, ruined in 1781 during the Qianlong reign, and reached its present complete form by 1914 — six hundred years of continuous rebuilding.

Beishan Temple, or Tulou Guan, clings to the slopes on the north side of the Huangshui valley with origins in the Northern Wei, 386 to 534, making it the oldest religious building in Qinghai; it began Buddhist and was gradually taken over by Daoism.

And the Huangshui itself, a tributary of the Yellow River, is the corridor the city grew along, at roughly 2,200 metres, hemmed in by steep loess and sandstone.

You will wear these everywhere from a municipal court on the valley floor to the long stair up Beishan, and they are also perfect for an afternoon in the Dongguan quarter, where the eating goes on considerably longer than anybody plans for.
