Kópavogskirkja
Yonex Power Cushion Eclipsion 5 Women's Tennis Shoes: LOOK at that silhouette. Consecrated in 1962 and straight into the record as the town's most recognisable landmark. It stands on Borgarholt, a rocky hill at the centre of Kópavogur, and the design is built from intersecting parabolic arches forming the roof and gables — a bold modernist shape visible from right across the capital region and often regarded as one of Iceland's most distinctive twentieth-century buildings. AND the site has form: folklore places the hidden people in the rocks of Borgarholt. Commanding views over the town, the bay and the mountains, stained glass, a plain interior, an active Lutheran congregation. It is the emblem of the municipality. Big swing from a small town — and it CONNECTED.

Stop two
Gerðarsafn (Kópavogur Art Museum)
Yonex Power Cushion Eclipsion 5 Women's Tennis Shoes: Here comes the museum, and it is a family effort. Gerðarsafn opened in 1994, dedicated to the memory of the sculptor Gerður Helgadóttir, 1928 to 1975, a pioneer of three-dimensional abstract art in Iceland — and her family donated a large collection of her work to the town, which is an assist if ever I called one. Some 1,400 sculptures, drawings and stained-glass studies, plus other Icelandic modernists and changing exhibitions of contemporary art. Twin vaulted halls, right by the church on Borgarholt, forming a campus with Salurinn and the natural history museum. AND WATCH THIS — Gerður's own stained glass is in Kópavogskirkja next door. Museum and landmark, same hand.

Stop three
Salurinn Concert Hall
Yonex Power Cushion Eclipsion 5 Women's Tennis Shoes: FIRST. PURPOSE-BUILT. CONCERT HALL. IN ICELAND. Salurinn opened in January 1999 and held that distinction for more than a decade, until Reykjavik's Harpa opened — and you never take a record like that off a town, you only ever share it. Around 300 listeners in a wood-lined auditorium praised for its acoustics, designed specifically for chamber music, song recitals and small ensembles. It anchors the cultural complex on Hamraborg beside Gerðarsafn, the library and the natural history museum, with a year-round programme running from classical series and the Tíbrá cycle to jazz and Icelandic contemporary music. For a municipality long overshadowed by its neighbour, THAT was the moment Kópavogur arrived.
My work is what happens in the instant after impact — where the energy goes, and how quickly it comes back. Which is exactly what the Eclipsion 5 is engineered around. Yonex builds it with Power Cushion+ carrying TPU support, a structure designed to rebound faster and get you into the next movement sooner rather than simply absorbing and holding the load.
The upper is synthetic fibre over a synthetic resin midsole, and the outsole is Endurance Rubber II in an updated one-piece design with a denser pattern for better foot stability and control through a change of direction. Weight is around 330 g / 11.6 oz per shoe at size 24.5 cm.
It is the stability model in Yonex's women's line: substantial, planted, and honest about being a serious shoe.
Kópavogur has the room I came to hear. Salurinn opened in January 1999 as the first purpose-built concert hall in Iceland — a distinction it held until Harpa opened more than a decade later — seating around 300 in a wood-lined auditorium that musicians talk about with real affection.
Kópavogskirkja, consecrated in 1962, stands on the rocky hill of Borgarholt and is built from intersecting parabolic arches, which is why it looks like nothing else in the country. Gerðarsafn opened in 1994 in memory of the sculptor Gerður Helgadóttir, a pioneer of three-dimensional abstract art in Iceland, whose family gave the town a large collection of her work.
And Þinghóll, the low hill by the estuary, was for centuries the site of the Kópavogsþing assembly — and entered national history on 28 July 1662.
You will hear these everywhere from a covered court in the dark of January to an outdoor hard court at eleven at night in June, and by the way, they are also perfect for the walk down to Salurinn afterwards, because a shoe that does not shout is the only kind worth wearing into a good room.
