Asics Solution Speed FF 4 OC Men's Tennis Shoes

The same last, read for crushed brick: a plusher cushion, ASICSGRIP on a dedicated outsole, with tape and loops reinforcing the medial flank that laces tend to saw through. Mogadishu is the walk, and I mainly want to inspect the masonry.

Stop one

the Fakr ad-Din Mosque in Xamar Weyne, standing by 1269 with a domed mihrab

Asics Solution Speed FF 4 OC Men's Tennis Shoes: Fakr ad-Din Mosque was standing by 1269, and frankly I’m here for the domed mihrab more than any royal biography. Good masonry ages; bad excuses do not.

Stop two

the Arba'a Rukun Mosque in Shangani, coral stone raised in the same decade

Asics Solution Speed FF 4 OC Men's Tennis Shoes: Arba'a Rukun Mosque was raised in coral stone in the same decade, which is exactly the sort of material choice that makes me nod at a wall like it has passed inspection. Kings come and go; properly set stone keeps the minutes.

Stop three

the ruined Mogadishu Cathedral, its Gothic shell open to the sky

Asics Solution Speed FF 4 OC Men's Tennis Shoes: Mogadishu Cathedral was built in the Italian colonial period and its Gothic shell now stands roofless, which is tragic but also an extremely literal demonstration of what happens when the envelope fails. I respect the arches; I am filing a complaint with the sky.

Stop four

Lido Beach, with the old Secondo lighthouse along the shore

Asics Solution Speed FF 4 OC Men's Tennis Shoes: Lido Beach sits on Mogadishu’s Indian Ocean shore, with the old Secondo lighthouse along the coast doing the finest kind of vertical work: standing there, being useful, refusing drama. A lighthouse is basically a load-bearing flashlight, and I mean that as praise.

The Mogadishu, Somalia track

Asics Solution Speed FF 4 OC Men's Tennis Shoes

Written for this world alone.

Two letters at the end of the name change the whole load case: OC, outdoor clay. Same chassis as the standard Solution Speed FF 4, different ground contact, and the ground is the only part of a shoe that has to solve a materials problem every single step.

The midsole is FLYTEFOAM, softer in this generation, delivering cushioning and a high energy return at low mass — foam density is where a shoe wins or loses its weight budget, and they spent it well. SPEEDTRUSS runs through the structure to improve quickness and cutting motions.

Underfoot it is a PRECISION SOLE with ASICSGRIP compound on a clay-court outsole: traction without giving up durability, which on a granular surface is a genuine engineering compromise, because grip normally costs you rubber.

There is a polyurethane loop and eyelet loops on the medial side of the upper, added for one reason — laces fail on the inside edge during abrupt lateral movement, so that is where the reinforcement went. And the sockliner is made with a solution-dyeing process that cuts water use by about 33% and carbon emissions by about 45% against conventional dyeing.

This colourway is White/Black.

Mogadishu is a masonry city and I could look at it all week. The Fakr ad-Din Mosque in Xamar Weyne was standing by 1269, with a domed mihrab — a dome in the thirteenth century means somebody understood compression and thrust with no way to calculate either.

The Arba'a Rukun Mosque in Shangani went up in the same decade in coral stone, which is quarried wet, cut soft and hardens in air; the whole coast is built from a material that sets after you have shaped it.

The ruined Mogadishu Cathedral is a Gothic shell open to the sky, and with the roof gone you can finally read the load path, which is a terrible way to be given a good section drawing. Then Lido Beach and the old Secondo lighthouse along the shore, still doing the simplest engineering job there is: be visible.

“A dome from 1269 with no arithmetic behind it. That is the proof.”

They built it, and it is still up.

Clay outsole on clay, and reinforcement exactly where the failures were. I approve of this shoe.
