Stop three
Grand Marché de Koudougou
Wilson Rush Pro Ace Men's Tennis Shoes: Stand still in the middle of it. The market moves; you need not. This is the commercial heart of Koudougou, Burkina Faso's third largest city, and one of the busiest markets of the Centre-Ouest region — rows of covered stalls and open-air pitches dealing in textiles, grain, vegetables, spices, household goods and everyday crafts, drawing traders and customers from the villages across Boulkiemdé province. The town has long been a centre of the country's cotton and textile economy, and locally woven and dyed cloth remains a speciality here. Its rhythms structure daily life in a city also known as a university town and as home of the annual Nuits Atypiques festival. Cloth is patience made visible. Thread by thread, and no faster than that.

Stop four
Grand Mosque of Koudougou
Wilson Rush Pro Ace Men's Tennis Shoes: Five times a day, the day is divided. Nobody has to consult anything. The hour simply arrives. This is the principal Friday mosque of the city and the main centre of worship for its Muslim community, its minarets visible above the low-rise cityscape, calling the faithful to prayer five times daily and filling to overflowing for Friday prayers and the great festivals of Eid. Koudougou, like most Burkinabè cities, is religiously mixed — Muslims, Catholics and adherents of traditional Mossi religion living side by side — and the Grand Mosque stands as the Islamic counterpart to the Cathédrale Saint-Augustin across town. Islam grew here steadily, through the trade networks that have crossed the West African savanna for centuries. Not suddenly. Steadily. Two towers, one town, and the day divided by both. Nobody here is late. There is only the hour that it is.
Shovel, boiler, eight hours, and the only thing that matters is whether your feet survive the shift. The Rush Pro Ace is the most generous fit in Wilson's popular Rush Pro line — a genuinely wider toe box, which is why I can wear it.
Breathable mesh upper for ventilation and support, the 4D Support Chassis giving a symmetrical heel-to-toe structure that limits supination, and R-DST+ EVA in the heel to cushion the landing. Stack heights are 28.9 mm at the heel and 19.5 mm at the forefoot, average weight around 12.5 oz in a men's 10.5.
Substantial, stable, and forgiving of a wide foot.
The station was inaugurated on 15 May 1953, in the last decade of French colonial rule, as a stop on the Abidjan-Niger railway linking Ouagadougou to the port of Abidjan — the line that gives landlocked Burkina Faso its access to the sea. Everything this city has moved, it moved through there.
Koudougou runs on rails and so do I.
The Cathédrale Saint-Augustin traces its foundation to 10 September 1931, when the Catholic mission established the church that became the mother church of the region; the Apostolic Vicariate of Koudougou followed on 14 June 1954.
The Grand Marché is the commercial heart of Burkina Faso's third city, covered stalls and open pitches dealing in textiles, grain, vegetables, spices and crafts. And the Grand Mosque is the principal Friday mosque, in a city where Muslims, Catholics and adherents of traditional Mossi religion live side by side.
You will wear these everywhere from a shift on a dusty municipal court to a whole day walking the Grand Marché, and they are also perfect for the trudge back up from the station platform when the Abidjan train has run late again and there is nothing to do but stand.
